Norton 8.5 and macOS 10.15 (Catalina) Fans Keep Running High.

Confirmed on Activity Monitor that "com,symantic,mes,systemextension" is using 137% CPU causing fans to run high and often on MacBook Pro 2016 2.6 GHz Core i7. Uninstall Norton Security and reinstalled with no positive results. Never had this problem with macOS 10.14 (Mojave). Norton what do you suggest I do next to resolve this overheating problem?

Hello Mario. Use this tool and remove all remnants of your Norton product. Reboot your machine fully, log into your account on the My Norton Portal and reinstall your product. After install run live updates until none are offered, reboot yet again. After the second reboot run live updates manually a second time. Tell us if that makes a difference. 

After install and updates try following the suggestion from Admin Sunil_GA in this post. Please let us know your results.

Yes, I noticed the same after my update to Catalina. I uninstalled/reinstalled Norton but it made no difference.  Therefore I have uninstalled Norton for good from my Mac and will look for a different security package.

Thanks for reporting in Norton Community Forums. Can you please help us with logs (instructions in below KB article) for further investigation? Please upload the logs under logs file section of new comment. 

Collect debug logs for Norton for Mac

- Screenshot of Activity Monitor showing "com,symantic,mes,systemextension" using high CPU

- Sample of the process: From Activity Monitor -> highlight process "com,symantic,mes,systemextension" -> Click on Gear icon -> sample process - Save. Please move debug logs and sample of the process into one compressed folder and upload them under Logs File section.

I am unable to send the logs as I have uninstalled Norton from my MacBook Air. I am currently using Bitdefender on a 30 day free trial. No overheating whatsoever with Bitdefender. If you manage to fix the problem within 30 days, I may reinstall Norton.

A similar event occurs on my PC.

I have precisely the same problem, I have reinstalled Norton, but if it does the same thing I'll delete it forever.

All: Please manually run live updates and reboot your machines. Others in another thread have similar issues where LU corrected them.

Manual LU and reboot do not fix this problem.  It was one of the first things I did when I first experienced this problem.

It's Obvious That This Is A Compatibility Issue That Either Norton, Or Apple Have To Fix With An Update. We Know Catalina macOS 10.15 Does Not Support 32 Bit Applications. The Question Is What Changed In The Update To Catalina From Mojave To Present This Issue. The Next Question Is Who Will Provide An Update Fix To Resolve This Issue, Apple Or Norton? I Am Beginning To See Long Time Norton Customers Jumping Ship, And Moving On To Competitor's Antivirus / Malware Protection. So I Would Think Norton Wants This Issue Resolved ASAP.

I reinstalled Norton and ran live updates and up to now, the system has not played havoc with the fans, as it did before.

In addition, I will report.

Since we were able to update mac OS 10.15.1 today, when we updated, the fans remained in the second half of the update, and when we checked in the activity monitor after the update was completed, this is also "com.symantic .mes.systemextension "CPU usage exceeded 140%.

Doesn't work, I understand Norton knew about this before macOS 10.15 was released and urge users not to update from macOS 10.14 because of incompatibility with Norton Security My question is how long will it take Norton to fix this???

I have just removed Norton from both my Mac's and will not reinstall - I'm going to another virus checker, this time hopefully one that works. CPU up to 137% and fans going mad - not good enough Norton :(

We will send you additional logs.

As an example, the CPU usage rate of the "com.symantic.mes.systemextension" process reached about 140%, so when trying to terminate the process by opening the activity monitor, the "Norton" process became unresponsive. It was.
I think it might be relevant, so I collected sample logs.

Recently, the CPU usage rate of the "com.symantic.mes.systemextension" process becomes higher once every two PC startups, so the process is manually terminated in the activity monitor.

As much as I loved using Norton for many years, I will have to find another Antivirus & Malware Application that works with macos 10.15.1 if no solution to this problem is found soon.

Has this issue been remedied yet?  I uninstalled Norton from my MacBook Air (Catalina) when it started happening.  I am currently on a 30-day trial with BitDefender.

All: I'm thinking the issues being discussed in this Apple thread MAY be relevant. CPU panic seems to be an Apple issue.

I checked with the state of build 223 of Norton 360, but the CPU usage rate remained at about 100% after starting, but it was a little lower than before, but unfortunately it does not seem to change.

Since this build 223 does not show improvement of this phenomenon and the progress of the sample log does not seem to go up yet, I also temporarily uninstalled Norton and used another security software for a while I want to see how it looks.

If something is changed later, I will check this thread and try to replace it again.
