Norton Account and Computers' Installs

How do our Norton Account (through manage.norton.com) and our individual computers know which computer has which installation?  We can use all of our allowed installs for a product, and then uninstall one of them, and then something must change in our Norton account.  Would we need to have a way to USE the Norton account to remove an install from a chosen computer?

I do not understand this.  I only understand, (1) Install the product, (2) The Norton Account takes the information and records the install.  TEACH WHAT TO DO AND HOW TO UNDERSTAND!

To uninstall a Norton product from a device

  1. Sign in to your Norton account.

  2. On the Devices page, under the device name, click the trash can icon next to the Norton security product.

  3. In the Remove Product confirmation pop-up window, click Continue.

Re: Norton Account and Computers' Installs

The site then LETS THE USER control what is installed on what?  Just uninstall a product from a device, sign in.... no, wait....

Sign in to manage.norton.com, click the trash icon for the product&device combination... and then does this perform the product removal FROM THE WEBSITE?

Forward from today, I have N.S. Deluxe, and I made ONE installation.  I may use all three allowable installations in the next few weeks.  Soon after that, I may buy one more computer to replace another computer.  I will need to remove the installation of N.S. from the computer to be replaced before installing N.S. onto the new computer.  This is so that I maintain the three allowable installs of Norton Security.  So I am supposed to sign into "manage...", click the trash icon, but then what happens?

Earlier, I only knew:  Control Panel, Uninstall Norton product, restart computer, run NRT, restart computer, maybe run NRT again, restart computer again, run the Norton product installer and follow instructions.  My Norton Account would then have records of all my installed products and computers.

I am still hoping for clarification.  (Note:  None of that "Downloader" business.  I like using the installer file taken from the 'direct download link'.)

From the website, you do not actually cause an uninstall of the product on the device, it just disables the activation on that device. So the next time the device checks with the Norton Subscription server, it will see that the license is no longer valid for that device and it will disable the Norton product.

I think your confusion here is coming from a distinction between a physical installation, and a subscription activation. When you have reached your limit for activations, and you want to add another device, that is when you need to remove an activation from the Services tab at Manage.norton.com. Then you can use a direct download link to install on the new device. Or if you use the Download button from your account you get a pre activated copy of your product.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

"Services tab at Manage.norton.com" -----  I am still studying this.  Next would be to use that web page to remove the service.

There are two places to remove something.  One is under Devices, and the other is under Services.  I do not understand why they are separate.   The seem to be the same thing to me.  To then make the NORTON know that I uninstalled a product, I tell the website that I am REMOVING THE SERVICE to the product?  I do not understand the two different tabs: Devices and Services.

Devices = Windows PC, Mac, Android and iOS devices

Services = Norton-as-a-Service

Why both of those.  They are the same.  I can't understand any differently.  If I click to remove an installation of one device on the page, then this means that the device is not to have the product installed.  The two different tabs make no sense.  What choices to make for which to remove where make no sense to me.  I want to be able to understand this stuff.

Re: Norton Account and Computers' Installs

try this...

If you trash can a Service...then the Service is de-activated on all Devices the Service is installed on.
If you trash can a Device...then the Device is de-activated from the Service.

Note: Services may service/satisfy 1/3/5/10 Devices
Note: Norton management is supposed to be a convenience.  If not a convenience.  You may always Chat with Official Norton Support.   Norton Support will help you manage your Norton security solutions.

Re: Norton Account and Computers' Installs

You may also have multiple active Norton products protecting different devices. Using the Devices tab lets you see the information for the individual devices. While the Services tab lets you list devices according to the product that is installed.

Re: Norton Account and Computers' Installs

I hope to avoid using CHAT.  Doing a CHAT is very tedious.  Being more self-reliant is better, but then the community forums allows for a discussion.  Still tedious, at least for this topic.

bjm, your posting of 20-Jul-2016 | 7:34PM • Edited: 20-Jul-2016 | 7:44PM about the Device versus Service may help me to avoid a very bad mistake.  I will try to keep the services for some upcoming new installs.  I plan on filling all my allowable installs for Norton Security, but then I also plan to replace one computer with another newer one.  I would want to tell my account to remove from the outgoing device so I could make an install onto the new device.  I would believe, the DEVICE tab is what I should use for removing the record for the outgoing device.  I should continue to make NO changes on the Services side.

The way you explained, if I remove any service, that removes my subscriptions ALL OF THEM for Norton Security.  I do not want that to happen.

Again, someone needs to tell me if I am thinking correctly about this.  I really want to avoid going through CHAT.

Re: Norton Account and Computers' Installs

The best answer, description, and explanation were from a chat session with a Norton representative, and later finding a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mtqTwZb2YVA&feature=youtu.be

The SERVICES tab, pick the product, find the listing of the specific device, and click on the trashcan icon next to that device.  This removes the license for that product on that device.

The community forums has a couple of links on the right side:  One is for CHAT, and another is for Twitter published information.  One of the twitter messages gives a link to that YouTube video for how to "free-up a license" using the manage.norton.com account.

bjm, that is a very nice list (through the hyperlink).  I am also slowly but surely learning some skill with my account on manage.norton.com.
