Norton AntiSpam not filtering SPAM/PHISHING emails

I'm not sure what version of Norton I have, but I am using Outlook 2016.

I am getting hammered by SPAM and Phishing emails.  One of the reason's why I purchased Norton was because of the AntiSpam, but it isn't doing anything to stop it.

What's up with that?

Daryl

Are you using POP email? That is the only account type that the anti spam features can work with.

And FYI. The Norton cannot stop the spam, it can only flag it and move it to a junk folder.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Norton AntiSpam not filtering SPAM/PHISHING emails

Sorry for jumping into topic but I had the same question, I've been getting phishing e-mails regularly (I have checked my e-mail in haveibeenpwnd and maybe it was because of previous leaks I got selected as a target). I read this post (maybe the OP can find some useful info there) today where it states that "the best antivirus software will almost always include some kind of phishing prevention mechanism. While these are never going to be foolproof, they can help reduce the likelihood of you falling prey to a phishing attempt." I'm very happy with Norton Antivirus but can you explain how does it protect against phishing? If it is a cloned website will Norton stop me from going there? And what message would I get in junk folder, would Norton write somehow that this is potentially phishing scam? Thank you!

Re: Norton AntiSpam not filtering SPAM/PHISHING emails

Yes I am using pop  Been using pop since the beginning of time.  I've often thought of moving to imap, but just having been willing to pull that trigger.  I guess I should now look at doing just that.  I didn't realize that Norton AntiSpam didn't work with pop.

Also, I realize that it won't stop spam.  That should be my ISP, but they're antispam/phishing sucks so I have to find a solution myself.

Thanks I'll start looking into moving to IMAP.

Re: Norton AntiSpam not filtering SPAM/PHISHING emails

Norton AntiSpam only supports POP3 and only on port 110.  Most ISPs now require that you use an encrypted port other than 110.  Most complaints that Norton is not catching spam are due to this issue.  Norton does not support IMAP.

Thank you, it's much clearer to me now how antiphishing works. It's similar to what Surfshark has with CleanWeb feature, both are evaluating the safety of the website, I guess there's a blacklist they are comparing it to and blocking the access if there's danger, very useful. I've been with Norton AntiVirus for nearly a decade now but somehow feel that VPNs offer some additional online protection these days regarding phishing and malware and trackers.
