Norton Blocking Text Hooker

Hi, I need some help with disabling Norton 360.

So, I'm trying to 'hook' text from a game I'm playing because it's in a totally different language, therefore I need to extract the text, then copy and paste it into a translator.

When I open ITH (Interactive Text Hooker) and select an application to 'hook', Norton blocks it immediately and the program closes.

It labels it as "Unauthorised Access" and blocks it.

I've tried disabling firewall and auto-protect but it still blocks it. Please help!

Thanks, I really appreciate it.

Re: Norton Blocking Text Hooker

"Unauthorized access" is a Norton Product Tamper Protection event.  It does not block a program from running, it only prevents the program from accessing Norton files and processes.  It is possible that the program is poorly written and Norton's protective action is unintentionally resulting in the program crashing.  You could turn off Norton Product Tamper Protection to check this, but I would not recommend leaving that protection disabled as it would put Norton's defense against compromise at risk.

Hi, thank you so much for the reply!

I tried what you said twice and turned off Norton Product Tamper, but the same thing happens. Except for this time, it doesn't show on my history in Norton.

So I guess it's the .exe itself?

Re: Norton Blocking Text Hooker

Make sure that after turning off the tampering you restart your PC. As the process can still be running and its services passively protecting your device.

Yes, if you turn off Norton Product Tamper Protection and the program still crashes, then Norton is not the cause of the crash, and the Tamper Protection block is coincidental to the program failing to run.

Re: Norton Blocking Text Hooker

Thank you two so much! It still doesn't work so it's the .exe, not Norton. :)

Anyways:

For anyone who might use this forum for the same problem (who knows?), ITH apparently isn't compatible with Windows 10, but it might work. Perhaps there's an update for it, so look out for that.

Re: Norton Blocking Text Hooker

Glad we found the culprit of the problem. Something basic like compatibility skipped my mind completely. I guess we are just getting spoiled and far too comfortable with easy access and compatibility of programs nowadays.
