Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Norton core is apparently blocking the TrueHD 7.1 Stream thru plex.  With Norton Core in place my TrueHD 7.1 is reduced to 5.1 PCM.  If I use my google wifi everything streams correctly.

smystic134 When you said:

Are you referring to the Core internal DNS settings?

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Yes I was talking about the default DNS, but I don't use this thing anymore too many issues.

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Sorry to hear that. IF in the future you decide to once again use Core let us know if we can assist. Core DNS began having serious issues around the middle of December which cascaded over into the New Year. Since then core firmware has updated to version 266 which specifically addresses wifi drops. There was also an issue with some Google hardware that went unnoticed which was causing wifi issues as well. It was mentioned in a thread in the Tech Outpost I believe and has already been patched. Let us know if we can assist you with Core if you change your mind going forward.

If it gets an update to support ipv6, I will think about it.

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Tried my core again today and it would not update to v226. Plex stutters on 4K and gives the Warning my server is not fast enough. True HD audio still plays as multi pcm through the core. Does not matter what the dns is set too. This is with v223. Can someone with V226 test plex 4K streaming with truehd 7.1.

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Hello again. Do the following on your Core wifi networks: https://support.norton.com/sp/en/id/norton-core-security/current/solutions/v119712906_core_en_us?entsrc=redirect_pubweb Recheck for the issue again. I have my 2.4 channel remaining at auto and the 5.0 channel set at 40.

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Why would that make a difference. The server and the client or nvidia shield tv are both hardwired.

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Bandwidth. Have you given the Plex QOS and assigned it a priority device?

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

I did try both of those options. I also don’t have a need for the router to even perform qos as my other routers that I use either don’t have it or I have it turned off and I have no bandwidth issues

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Plex is directly connected on a Core LAN port correct?

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Turn your DPI setting to OFF, which will allow scanning to be disabled for only 30 minutes. See if the bandwidth on Core changes. This is my best guess for you given I cannot visually see how you are setup. I wonder if your ISP does "DNS Rebinding" at their level and it cannot be disabled. Here is my reference. https://support.plex.tv/articles/206225077-how-to-use-secure-server-connections/

I have to try latter but if that’s the problem, then what? There is no way to disable that permanently.

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Hello again. I would present the question of DNS rebinding with your ISP and see what they have to say about it. Won't hurt to ask about it and rule it out as the cause of an issue. For now disable the deep packet inspection to see if the Plex responds better. Use the Google DNS also.

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

So I would go to my ISP for a problem that is clearly the problem of the router maker?  I have used countless new routers and non cause this issue.

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

dmystic134 Since Plex is nothing more than another software suite on the computer you are using it with it seems like a logical suggestion to as if your ISP enforces DNS rebinding. If that should be the case that would be like deep packet inspection x 2 before the signals ever get to Core, which then performs another DPI inspection. The results would be slower throughput. Other routers most likely do not do DPI in the manner Core does or maybe not at all. My suggestion was not that your ISP is at fault but rather to impose that question for the sake of asking to rule that out as an issue, working from the ISP signal toward Core. Working from the signal source toward an added component is what I am attempting to do and assist in that manner. Hope that makes sense.

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Plex is not running from my computer, but instead a network server, but I get what you are saying.  But the average person, will open the box, if there is issues it goes back to the store.  I am fortunate enough to be able to not need to return it to the store, but just throw it in the closet in hopes that one day Symantec gets it together and with a firmware update it will work.  I have no problem being a beta tester if that's what I signed up for, in this case I did not.  Sorry if this comes off negative, but I have but more time in this thing that it is worth (my choice).

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Indeed. Unfortunately not being there to see what is actually taking place we have to assist from out knowledge base. Please let us know if we can assist in the future should you decide to once again use Core. We will be more than glad to assist. Accordingly I will flag the thread to an admin asking it to be locked for further posts since we won't be able to get a resolution for you. Have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

What is there to see?  If the core is connected try to stream a 4k movie on your network, one that includes TrueHD audio, like Transformers 4k with the Dolby Atmos.  If your receiver shows TrueHD 7.1 then it is playing correctly, but if your receiver shows multichannel PCM, then the core is blocking something.  Unless you have a receiver capable then you won't be able to test and might not even know what I am talking about.  In fact, it has nothing to do with Plex because if I stream a movie without using Plex I get the same result.

Re: Norton Core and Plex TrueHD stream

Hello

My son watches movies using Plex. He doesn't have Core. He puts them on something for my hubby to watch in our apt. My hubby is able to watch and hear them with no issues at all.. Not sure if this is the same thing for us since we have FIOS. We have a "smart TV" so it shows up in core as another device.

Have a Good Night and

Thanks.
