Welcome to Norton Community Forum
Here is a KB with diagrams which should help you to set up your Norton Core.
There is also a video to help you.
If you have a combined modem and router, please post back. There is another KB article for that situation.
If you need further support, please post back again or contact Norton Support.

Hello kp1832. When setting up your wireless networks(s), keep in mind the main network is your 2.4ghz side, I simply named it Core. I have my general devices connected to this network since they're not bandwidth intensive. The other side of your network is the 5.0 ghz side, it is recommended that your streaming devices connect to this because most of those devices ARE bandwidth intensive. I named this network Core 5 to keep it simple. Create two SEPERATE passwords for each network, those not being the same. Also keep in mind that your guest network is isolated from the other two. All devices connected to your guest network will NOT have file sharing, printing abilities and other resources from your main networks. If you need general help please post here and we will get you up and running.
This is my 1st post. I came here because I installed a Norton Core today because the WiFi signal was so weak from my AT&T router. I was so disappointed that the core isn’t much better. I had no idea there were two sides to the network. I switched my iPhone to the 5.0 ghz side and my signal actually got weaker. I’m on a 12 Mbps plan with AT&T but I’m only getting between 1.0 - 6.0 Mbps.
Im not sure what I’m doing wrong.
If you are connecting wirelessly, it is normal to get about half your provisioned speed. 5GHz will give you the fastest speed, but will not provide as much spatial coverage as 2.4GHz. Connect to the router using ethernet cable when running speed tests, as wireless is susceptible to all sorts of things that can adversely affect your results. No ISP will guarantee wireless speeds.
Thanks for the reply. I have the Norton Core connected to the AT&T router with the provided Ethernet cable. At one point today, the WiFi signal was so poor I couldn’t stream a movie via. my Apple TV. I bought this new (expensive) router to fix this issue.
How far from the Core router is the wifi device you are connecting with? As SendOfJive notes, all kinds of things can affect your wifi speeds. Distance from the router, walls, different levels in the house. What happens if you move the device next to the Core router?
I was checking the WiFi speed on my phone earlier and I was right next to the Norton and it was in the low 4Mbps. Also, my Apple TV is on the main level of the house and the router is in the basement, but is pretty much right on top of each other.
Sorry... high 4Mbps
Do you have any other wifi devices to test your wifi speed?
UGH, 0.89 Mbps on my iPad. Something’s not right.
Welcome to the Norton Community Forum.
Have you checked with your ISP to see if there is any repair work being done in your neighborhood? Have you had them check your connection? How has the weather been by you? How many devices do you have connected and being used at the same time.? Are you getting your telephone and TV from A T & T?
If you are on a 12 Mbps plan and you are getting 4.9 Mbps wirelessly, that is actually pretty normal. One thing to try is to change the channel in the router. If you have many neighbors close by who are all on the same channel, that can affect your wireless performance.
I recently had AT&T out to my house and they said there is a strong signal coming in. There’s no maintainance in the area and the weather is good. I have 6 devices linked to the core which is the same I had on the AT&T router. I get my TV, internet, land line and wireless from AT&T.
Thanks for the reply and have a good day!
EDIT TO MY LAST POST:
My wife and I went for a walk (about an hour) and I reran a speed test when we got home. My WiFi is currently running at 14.0 Mbps on ch. 11. I’ll see how long it sustains that level of performance.
Is your image above from the Core Router app? I do not have a Core yet, so I am only guessing at this.
If it is from the Core app, that network test is a speed test from your ISP. Not your Wifi speed. Again if this is from the Core app, it would indicate that there was a connection issue from the ISP that slowed the connection. After your walk, whatever might have been wrong from the ISP got fixed.
All: JISTL most likely is having a serious ISP issue. His screenshot is indeed from his Core app. Below is a screenshot of the built in speed test on Core which I ran a couple of minutes ago. Our FIOS plan is 75/75 both ways, as you can see we are consistently getting above those values. These values are directly from Core not being reflective of any wireless or ethernet device connected to it. My suggestion is for JISTL to set his DNS values on Core to ISP if he hasn't already. Give things a few minutes and recheck. With the speeds being shown for the data plan at 12 mbps I have to ask whether he has ADSL/DSL, satellite linked or a carrier wireless hookup. Those are very low values even with that plan.
OK... I’m learning more and more here. I thought the Core app speed test was the WiFi signal I was getting from the Core. I did what SoulAsylum suggested and set my DNS value to ISP (not that I understand what that did). After restarting the Core, I’m getting 14 Mbps in the Core app, and 15.3 Mbps using a 3rd party speed test app.
Also, I have AT&T’s U-verse, not ADSL/DSL or satellite.
I cant thank everyone enough for your help and patience with my questions!
Awesome news Jim. Glad we could help.
Hello kp1832. Following up on your status.
Thanks again to everyone! Performance has been stable and I even tested it by streaming some Star Trek TNG episodes with zero issues. I also fired up my office computer and logged onto my work network faster than I ever have before.
Im glad I found this forum!
Current speed test... 24.5 Mbps
