Norton Core not connecting to MetroNet Fiber

This is frustrating!! Connecting the Metronet cable to the WAN port caused the Core Android App to not complete its Setup (no reference to my Network, I guess). It was able to update the firmware (software) of the Core So I know that information was received through Metronet Fiber. Luckily, I read Arthur Howard's Thread on his connection problems. Like he, I had to connect the Core via a LAN Port to my router in order for the App to have an Internet and Network connection to complete the setup of the Core. I am using the Android App.

So, I again switched back to having the Metronet cable connected to the WAN port and my computer connected to a LAN port of the Core. Well, now the computer has internet access but the Core App does not!!

I am going to reconnect the Core to a LAN Port of the router, and then connect all other wired connections to the LAN ports of the Core. That way, the Core Android App should have access to the Internet, I hope.

I have not reached out to Norton Support yet. I might have to do so. I am awaiting a solution to Arthur's problem. I hope he post a solution received by Norton Support.

Re: Norton Core not connecting to MetroNet Fiber

Ole Jerry have you tried to contact our support team via phone?

There is a simple debug session that can be done using the Core ring LED feedback.

Re: Norton Core not connecting to MetroNet Fiber

@Benz I have not yet contacted your support team via phone. Thank you for the suggestion. I thought I would await an update from Arthur to see if He and Support have found a solution to his connection problems - (HBC). I am just fine with my current setup. I am utilizing my existing router only as an intermediary between the Metronet Fiber cable and the Core (WAN port}. All other connections are through the Core. It has found all 8 of my devices (one being a wireless connection to my printer}.

Again, thanks for you suggestion. With my Setup, my Security Score is lower for it is finding a weak password (8 character having a Capital Letter, an #, and two numbers?), and the Core finding itself connected to a router.

Re: Norton Core not connecting to MetroNet Fiber

Well. I noticed the Core had a firmware update when I came home. So I rearranged my connections to have my Metronet Fiber Ethernet cable directly connect to the WAN port of the Core vs. my router. I was expecting the Core to eventually glow a steady Amber again. VOILA!!   The Core ended up glowing a steady White!! Even the App could now communicate with the Core (without the ole router). The Core finds my 8 devices quicker. The download speed increases up to 70 Mbps.

However, I find my Security Score remains the same. - Weak Password and the Core still thinking that it is connected to another device that is routing traffic. How do I make the App/Core see my long password and my direct connection to my provider.

Slowly but surely, we are getting there.

Re: Norton Core not connecting to MetroNet Fiber

I just called support and was told I need to use my router as a bridge.  I'm still trying to get the core to work with the router but the app still can't find it.  I've read your thread and the other one you mentioned, but I'm not having a magical moment yet.  I'm still getting blinking amber.  I'll keep trying.  Support was not helpful at all.

Re: Norton Core not connecting to MetroNet Fiber

@wvud6 Are you saying that the App cannot find the router? The App can only find what is connected to the Core via its LAN ports and wireless Wi-Fi network. Do you have a modem/router combo? That device is usually connected via a coaxial cable provided by your provider. If that is the case, then the router needs to be bridged.

Re: Norton Core not connecting to MetroNet Fiber

It works!  Apparently I just needed to try it again and again and again before the firmware update worked.  The Core is now communicating with my fiber optic network directly without the bridge.
