Norton Core Security Plus does NOT cover an unlimited number of mobile devices

According to the email I just received from Norton, Norton continues to make the claim that:

You also now have a complimentary subscription of Norton Core Security Plus†. Not only does it help protect your home network, but it covers an unlimited number of your PCs, Macs, and mobile devices, too.

This is not really true, Norton. There is no Norton Core Security Plus app for IOS devices, and therefore, Norton Core benefits are not as advertised. At this time I plan to keep my Norton Core, however, I cannot say I'm fully satisfied any more than Norton can say "Norton Core Security Plus covers an unlimited number of mobile devices." Please stop making that claim.

I was frustrated that I spent time looking for an app that does not exist. At least for now my subscription to Norton Core Security Plus is complimentary. However when the complimentary subscription runs out and I need to renew, I don't see how $9.99 per month is reasonable considering that the subscription does NOT extend to protection of my IOS devices when not at home.

So, what are you going to do, Norton? I spent about $265 on Norton Core. I was supposed to get protection not only "For the Inside" but "For the Outside". That's your advertisement I'm quoting. How exactly are you going to live up to your word?

Re: Norton Core Security Plus does NOT cover an unlimited number of mobile devices

What you get for IOS devices is the Norton Mobile Securty- Lost phone finder. Similarly, for Android devices you get Norton Mobile Security. They are covered under your Core Security Plus subscription.

If you log into your Norton Account and click on the Download button beside the Core Plus subscription, you will send yourself an email to your device that will give you the directions needed to install on your mobile devices.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

This link leads to the Norton Core app. The Norton Core app will tell me to install Norton Security on all my devices. Norton Security for IOS does not exist. I stand by my statement that Norton Core Security Plus does NOT cover IOS devices.

While it is true there is a Norton Mobile Security Lost Phone Finder, that is not what Norton promises in its advertisements. Try following this link:

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/norton-security/current/solutions/v77490791_EndUserProfile_en_us?displang=iso3%3Aeng&displocale=iso3%3AUSA&helpid=&inid=hho_supp_htm_security-cur-retail-mobile-03-v77490791&origin=ngp&ssdcat=303

This support document actually explains what Norton Mobile Security is. It explains that its security features for IOS are as follows:

  • Anti-Theft:

Helps you locate your lost or stolen iPhone or iPad on map. You can also initiate an Internet call to your missing device if it is not locked.

  • Contacts Backup:

Restores and shares your contact information across your Android, iPad, or iPhone

Both of these features, by the way, are provided by Apple. I don't need these.

But more to the point, look at the features of Norton Mobile Security for Android...

  • Protective Anti-malware Blocker*:

Prevents apps with malware and viruses from being installed on your device before you download from Google Play

  • Intrusive Adware App Advisor*

Lets you know if apps contain intrusive adware before you download from Google Play

  • Antiphishing Web Protection*:

Protects against online scams by blocking fraudulent websites

  • Malware Protection:

Scans and removes apps with viruses, spyware, and other threats

  • Remote Locate:

Pinpoints your lost or stolen Android device on a map

  • Call & Text Blocker:

Protects against annoying calls and mobile spam

SMS or Text message blocking feature is not supported on Android 4.4 or later.

  • Privacy Advisor*

Automatically scans apps and lets you see privacy risks before you download them from Google Play

  • Battery & Data Usage App Advisor*

Alerts you to apps with high battery and data use before you download them from Google Play

  • Safe Browsing*

Protects your device and your personal data from malicious sites that install ransomware, trojans, and other threats

  • Anti-theft

Remotely locks and wipes the personal information on your lost or stolen device to prevent anyone from accessing it

  • Contacts Backup

Restores and shares your contact information across your devices

  • SIM Card Lock#

Instantly locks your phone if the SIM card is removed

Therefore, I consider it misleading for Norton to say "You also now have a complimentary subscription of Norton Core Security Plus†. Not only does it help protect your home network, but it covers an unlimited number of your PCs, Macs, and mobile devices, too."

In fact, Norton will charge the same subscription rate of $9.99 per month for Norton Core Security Plus, and while owners of android devices will benefit, this is not a good value for owners of IOS devices.

Therefore, I consider it misleading for Norton to say "You also now have a complimentary subscription of Norton Core Security Plus†. Not only does it help protect your home network, but it covers an unlimited number of your PCs, Macs, and mobile devices, too."

The protection provided by your Core Security Plus is the same as has been offered by the Norton Security product line since it was introduced. The Mobile products obviously cannot run Windows code, so they get the Norton Mobile Security product included in the subscription.

In fact, Norton will charge the same subscription rate of $9.99 per month for Norton Core Security Plus, and while owners of android devices will benefit, this is not a good value for owners of IOS devices.

As you noted, the IOS version only helps locate a lost device and backup contacts. Both offered by Apple for free. There are no AV products for IOS as they are not needed. The OS sand boxes the apps so they cannot affect the OS.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Thank you. It sounds like we are in agreement.

I wish Norton was a little more forthcoming with such information. I believe owners of IOS devices deserve to know their IOS devices do not require additional protection. Some of Norton's language could be interpreted as selling a service some customers do not need, and Norton does not provide. It is something I wish I understood before purchasing Norton Core.

And FWIW...

This is also the situation for Windows Phone (aka, Windows Mobile OS) devices commencing with version MOS 8.0 thru-to and including the most current MOS releases.

Norton no longer even tries bothering with offering a Location & Contact backup (a limited function Norton Mobile app) for these MOS mobile devices (although they used to, once upon a time) ...
