Norton DNS issue

For the last couple of days, Norton DNS has been having intermittent problems. I get "Resolving Host" messages in the lower left of the Chrome browser and frequent will not load errors on pages that give a message saying the URL can't be found in DNS.

This can last seconds to minutes.

This is NOT the same as the "losing internet connection" issue that results in link loss between the modem and Core.

Is Norton working on the DNS servers to resolve some problem?

Re: Norton DNS issue

Have you tried changing the Core DNS settings to your ISP DNS for testing purposes?

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Norton DNS issue

I could do that, but it's not the right answer. Norton needs to fix this. Norton DNS is part of the service we're paying for and it needs to work (and it used to work).

Users who don't view this Forum and don't understand the error simply see a failing product.

The problem is getting more frequent and of longer duration today.

Example:

This site can’t be reached

www.usatoday.com’s server DNS address could not be found.

Try:

ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED

Re: Norton DNS issue

It's working for me using Norton DNS.

Re: Norton DNS issue

Unfortunately, like so many Core issues, this is apparently random/intermittent and doesn't effect all users. I am not effected by many of the other problems mentioned here.

There are a lot of threads in the Forum where changing from Norton DNS to another one "fixed" the problem - but maybe not for everyone. I may play around with switching to another DNS, then switching back, but there's definitely a problem with Norton DNS that needs to be fixed.

Re: Norton DNS issue

Garlen. You are asking for assistance for your problem. We are willing to assist in every way possible. Please be at least willing to try our suggestions.  The Core has these setting values which you can change. Please pick one and let us know if your issues persists if you'd be so kind. I would insert your ISP DNS values as a start.

Re: Norton DNS issue

Hi @garlen,

If the issue persists after @SoulAsylum's suggestion, could you please send logs? I have sent you a private message with the steps. Please be sure to run the latest firmware version. Thank you.

Re: Norton DNS issue

Gayathri and all...

I've been online over 3 hours this morning, no DNS issues at all. Either the v191 update fixed it or the DNS servers have been fixed. The symptoms looked to me as if the DNS servers were being yo-yo'd for about 2 days.

I'm closing the thread.

Thanks!

Re: Norton DNS issue

I've seen the same issue the past few days.  firmware is on V_191.  I get DNS could not resolve, then router shows lost internet connection.

I just switched over to ISP DNS and will see if that fixes issue.

Re: Norton DNS issue

Yes, it's back since Saturday morning. Intermittent DNS "Resolving host" and DNS failure messages. I switched to ISP's (Cox) DNS about 24 hours ago, no problem since. Will switch back after 48 hours.

Interesting, though. I don't get a router link disconnect from the modem, the Internet connection remains active, just seconds to minutes of no DNS resolution.

Re: Norton DNS issue

I switched back to Norton DNS after 48 hours and, so far, no problems - but it comes & goes. Since there's no current problem for me, I marking it solved again.

Re: Norton DNS issue

Intermittent DNS issues again this morning. Seconds to minutes of failure.

In Chrome, I see (in the lower left corner):

"Waiting for cache"

Followed by:

"Resolving host"

Followed by this on the main Chrome screen:

"This site can’t be reached
www.usatoday.com’s server DNS address could not be found.
Try:
•    Checking the connection
•    Checking the proxy, firewall, and DNS configuration
•    Running Windows Network Diagnostics
ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED"

I have switched back to my ISP's (Cox) DNS with no problems and marked this unsolved again.

Switched back to Norton DNS after updates to Core and App. Marking this thread Solved again until/unless the problem shows up again.

Re: Norton DNS issue

Hi,

Is anyone else in this thread facing this issue? Thanks.

Re: Norton DNS issue

Hi -

Same problem as described by garlen on 10/10.  Issue exists with both Chrome and Firefox.  Not a crisis but sure is annoying.

Thx

Re: Norton DNS issue

I have not seen the issue since I changed to ISP DNS.  I have not tried switching back to Core DNS, as i haven't had time to confirm updates referenced by Garlen.

Re: Norton DNS issue

Been having this problem over the last few days. Seems pretty consistent with some sites, while working just fine with others. Switched to ISP DNS and problem as gone away, but as others have noted, that isn’t really a good solution.

Firmware: 171009_193

App: 1.20.2
