Norton down again

This happens so often.
Norton Identity safe goes down.
Nothing on Norton website to say there are any problems. God forbid Norton shows they are having a problem!!!
Would be nice for the worlds leading virus software company to have a link on their website showing if their system is having any issues.
It would have saved me two hours of trying all things that Norton advise you to do on their website, like restart your computer, sign out and sign in again, use the norton removal tool and reinstal your program. Make sure your program is activated etc ect NOTHING ABOUT YOU HAVING A PROBLEM ahh duhhh !!!!
Then when you want to chat you have to wait another 30 minutes.
Probably just to hear " Oh sorry for the inconvenience, but we are having technical issues"
WHY NOT PUT THIS ON YOUR WEB PAGE FOR US TO SEE  !!!!   ?????

Re: Norton down again

Thank you for the link - where am I able to find the connection to this link on the Norton website?
I could only find some American link and that didn't show what you gave me.
Anyhow thanks for the help. I have bookmarked this for future problems.

Cheers

Re: Norton down again

then the support team couldn't keep there mates employed in chat or on the phone telling people after they wait for ages to be told that its server issues, going to get a survey to do in the next couple of days and number one suggestion will be that they need to give a status report at the very least on their web site and that we should not have to sit around waiting in line on chat or the phone to be told that server issues are causing the problem.

Re: Norton down again

Thank you all for your replies. I have found the link: https://status.norton.com works great.

I still think it would be nice when you google Norton Support Australia and get onto the Norton Support page that this link is there. It should not be hidden away in some obscure place, or given out only through the community support pages.

Come on Norton be a bit more open and let us find this link easier.

Re: Norton down again

Hi, everybody!

After a somewhat extended sabbatical absence, I'm back just to point out to one of the so-called "advantages" of having one's vault safely guarded in the cloud... Here it is in it's raw image...

Greetings!

Says floplot...

Firefox 50 users should be happy.

Oh, floplot... Not all Firefox users... I guess you meant to say Some Firefox 50 users. Unfortunately I am one of the other some...

Thanks, anyway.

Re: Norton down again

Hello LinYu2

The update does not come thru Norton Live Update. You have to get the Add-On from the Mozilla Add-On page. Remember to turn on auto fill. It is off by default. If you have check for updates turned off in FF, then you didn't get it. Run FF Live Update manually to get the Update.

You do need version 22.8.1.14

Thanks.

Re: Norton down again

Thanks, floplot. I got it now. I downloaded it from Firefox directly and it is now installed.

I also guess I was right all along. It is for use with the Cloud Vault and does not affect the Local Vault users in any way that I can notice. The tool bar in my Firefox browser looks exactly the same as it has looked since last December. This means that yes, I can access my Local Vault from Firefox but it will not do anything other than showing me my saved IDs and passwords. It can also send me directly to the sites, when I click on the right-pointing arrow, but that is about all it does. I need to do the filling manually.

Not to worry much, though, I must add. I've got used to resort to IE for those sites that I most frequently need to access and this sort of became a routine for me, so no major complaints about it.

Many thanks for your usual valuable and prompt help.

Cheers.

P.S. - I can't help it but notice that the ratings don't look like going through the roof, as the graphic seems to imply:

Re: Norton down again

Hello

It just did come out today. Also, not everyone uses the Norton Password Manager.

Thanks.

@LinYu2

If you take a look at the reviews - the most recent one is December 31, 2016 - before the new extension was available- so the reviews do not apply to the "new" extension.

LinYu2:

That is because the Toolbar and ID Safe are two completely separate add ons for FF. No connection between the two.

How are you accessing the local vault from FF. The only thing you can do from the Norton Toolbar is access the settings for the local vault.

I need to do the filling manually.

You have a point. Your eye caught what mine didn't... It's the weight of the years, I suspect...

Time will change that gloomy picture if the merits so warrant it, but in my case, it may not make much of a difference either way.

Well, Pete, you have said somewhere that you're not an avid user of FF, so I don't blame you for not knowing that you can in fact access your local vault from Firefox Norton Toolbar. I do that almost on a daily basis: Click on the three-dot icon, click on Open Identity Safe Settings, then remove the Settings window by clicking on the X in the orange colored area and there you are -- your beloved Norton Local Vault in full view...

Cheers.

Re: Norton down again

LinYu2

Thanks for the quick tutorial. I guess I never thought to use that work around to get at the vault contents.

FYI

I do not remember saying I was not an avid FF user. In fact FF was the only browser l I had used until the ongoing changes to the ID Safe in FF pushed me to try alternatives. I now go back to IE when I need to get an ID Safe login or a form autofilled.

Re: Norton down again

Oh, Peter, I'm sorry for my confusion about your use of FF. Someone else wrote that and I was under the impression it had been you. My apologies. I guess I need to admit that the years are falling on me fast and mercilessly...

And, of course, my simple information about how I access my local vault most of the times was NEVER meant as a tutorial... Lest the "pupil" teach the "teacher"... No. I do it that way most of the times because if I'm working with FF and need to look at the vault, far from being a workaround, this is actually the most direct and quick way of getting to it. Otherwise, I either use IE or the Norton main app.

Cheers.

Re: Norton down again

I am the guilty party that said "not an avid user" and even lesser user of Chrome.

Interesting observation regarding the closing of the ID Safe Settings after opening them via the three dots and seeing the Vault.  I can do the same with FF and my Online Vault?  As long as I logged into my Online Vault previously on IE????

Re: Norton down again

Yank

If you have no vault open when you try the work around, after you close the settings box, you see the log in box. And for you and I, you can choose the local or online vault and log in.
