Norton Employee

Is this (Michael York) really a Symantec Employee? Or is it just a scam?

Re: Norton Employee

Hi Wikipedian,

No, it's not a scam. Michael York exists; he helped me out personally in another forum (techguy or cybertechhelp, I think, before I found this forum) when I had questions about NAV on my old machine. I even mentioned once to him that he was omnipresent on the web, posting to different forums. I'll just go over to one of the forums I mentioned to see if I can find his answer.

Okay. He said that he tries to monitor as many forums as possible in order to see if he can help users who are experiencing difficulties with Norton products.

And he also said:

Symantec’s goal is to make sure our customers are receiving proper support, wherever they may be asking questions online.

His signature is:

Michael York
Norton Authorized Support Team
Symantec Corporation

Re: Norton Employee

Hi,

Since he tags his posts with "Norton Authorized Support Team" he is probably on the outsourced customer/technical support and not directly hired by Norton/Symantec.

Re: Norton Employee

Have always thought that all messages from Norton Employees should have the Norton ICON, others who Norton think are helpful should be tagged as Norton Approved, all others could have Icons of their choice.

This would give you an Idea of who you are talking to.
There are lots of people out there who give very helpful information, but it would be nice to know what authiority they have.

Re: Norton Employee

Here in these forums, all with names in red are Symantec Staffers except a very few moderators who act for Lithium who run the site hosting the Forums. If you click on their names you can sometimes see what they actually do in real life since they show up here on top of their daily jobs of programming, quality control and so on.

"gurus" are appointed by Symantec to help in the Forums here but are not employees.

For users in general you can draw some conclusions from the number of times they have posted here combined with the number of Kudos flags awarded to them by other users here and by Symantec Staff.

Hope that helps somewhat.

Thanks, the first two paragraphs were interesting.

The third part   -----  some posts are just a variation of the one above, an easy way to build the number up, and I've seen Kudos for very little.

Still, thanks again, you've now got one more 'Star'

Re: Norton Employee

For part three I chose my words very carefully if you not the qualifiers.

I think Kudos are a mix of appreciation of key contribution in dealing with a problem and of encouragement for trying to help.

But we are all human.

Thanks for the kudo

Re: Norton Employee

Boneidle .... and everyone else for that matter!

I missed one category of helpers here in the forums, in addition of course to each and everyone ....

Volunteers are support agents who are have volunteered to review the forums for common issues in their off-time.

I'd forgottent that Tony Weiss had given this information in another thread:

Gurus, Volunteers and other ranks to know

Re: Norton Employee

Thanks huwyngr, that link explains a lot, hadn't seen it before.

Perhaps it should be put up top with Stickies.

What is stickies?  Is it similiar to post-its?

Yes, they are electronic post-its/announcements; you'll find them at the top of every board :-)

A sticky is a message, posted by staff, for which a link to it always appear at the beginning of the Forum message listing.

Like this one:  Norton AntiVirus/Norton Internet Security 2010.1 Patch

If you click on that it will take you to a message that is on a page within the Forum message listing and eventually could end up so far down that you'd have a job finding it again!

So if you go to the beginning of this Forum

Norton Internet Security / Norton AntiVirus

you'll see a bunch of message links including Norton AntiVirus/Norton Internet Security 2010.1 Patch

and that link will stay there in sight, unless it is removed by staff for some reason.

That's what I meant by a sticky ....

OK?

Hugh
