Is Norton Family able to monitor any Android browser other than Norton Family browser?

Hi.  I recently read a glowing review about Norton Family Parental Control in PCMag.com, from which I got the strong (but maybe false?) impression that Norton Family has the ability to monitor and block content via any browser.  From the review, "Norton Family Parental Control (for Android)", I quote:  "Content filtering is browser-independent, of course, and since it handles HTTPS sites your kids can't evade it using a secure anonymizing proxy, even on Android."

I was very sadly surprised when, on installing Norton Family on my son's Moto E (running Android v4.4.4) that both of the browsers he uses - Opera and Photon Browser - are apparently unsupported and cannot be monitored.

Was the PCMag.com review wrong about browser support or did I misinterpret the "content filtering is browser-independent" statement?  Or can somebody provide a list of 3rd party browsers that are supported by Norton Family?

This is potentially a deal-breaker for me, so I'd really appreciate the feedback.

Cheers,

- Chris

Hi Chris,

For Android, we have limited support for Google Chrome, but not for Opera and Photon Browser. For the best possible monitoring, we highly recommend the child to be using the in-built Norton Browser.

Thanks

That kind of makes the entire thing redundant.  If a kid wants to use the internet, they aren't willingly going to use the monitored browser, they will use the browser that isn't monitored.  And on android, you can't remove the built in browser.

Even if a kid was honest and not trying to get around the rules, they are still reflexively going to use the browser that they know.

When I first installed Norton 5 months ago, Norton filtered Chrome well with no problems. Recently however, Norton will not filter Chrome for adult content at all. What Changed? Also, my child with a Samsung S4 Galaxy finds that the Norton stops working often. It's very frustrating. I have to uninstall and re-install the ap on the phone about every 10 days or so.

Now I have one child's phone with the native browser and Norton seems to be effective with that as well as the Google search ap.

My other child's phone has only Chrome as the native browser. So, I block the Chrome ap, and instruct my child to use Google search for searches and Norton browser for websites.
