Norton Family on Android DOES NOT BLOCK PORN!

I installed Norton Family on Android (KitKat Version 4.1.2). It installed successfully, I get the little tray icon, I can go to the website and see the activity on the phone. It appears to be working and doing what it is supposed to do…

So I fire up the default browser, it opens to yahoo.com, and I click on search bar and enter "porn". The first returned listing is for pornhub.com.  Click on this search result and you go directly to their home page where they are playing their latest video.  Full two on one sex scene, **bleep** oral all at the same time...  really? That’s the best you can do… unbelievable… Sure if you click on any of the links on the pornhub.com home page (I guess after you get tired of watching three adults fuc each other) then Norton springs into action and blocks you…

WOW this is a gigantic let down…

Hi Teglovic,

The website should be blocked.  Please make sure you have the option "Block the site" selected at House Rules -> Web after you log onto your Norton Family online account.

Thanks

Katie

Yes it is set to block.  I gave you the recreation steps.  This is verified now on two phones.

Install Norton Family

Set Block websites

go to phone and fire up default browser

enter www.pornhub.com

Noton blocks you and you cannot get to this site

now go to yahoo.com and enter the word   porn   in the yahoo search engine

first returned (no paid advertisment) is www.pornhub.com

click on this returned search result

your browser goes to the home page for pornhub.com and sits there looping over and over the current porn video on their home page.   If you click on anylink on that home page Norton will spring into action and block you.

do these steps and tell me you get a different result....

Re: Norton Family on Android DOES NOT BLOCK PORN!

i am not certain however Yahoo may have changed the way they allow us to programmatically set the safe search feature for all searches.

You can however do it yourself and lock it down so it cannot be reset. See this post on yahoo safesearch.

You don't have to login to an account, just do a simple search and click the gear on the right and select preferences...

I could set Yahoo, and Bing, and Google, and, ...

Norton Family does not protect kids against the most obvious search in the world... porn...

super super super disappointing...  I mean a kid is going to type in the URL they are going to navigate to porn sites by using search engines...

Re: Norton Family on Android DOES NOT BLOCK PORN!

Why wouldn't you set the ones we can't programatically set? Seems like an obvious solution while we work this out with Yahoo. Google already works properly as does Bing.
