Norton Family Browser offers YouTube video: are they verified?

Hello, I put Norton Family on my kid's Android mobile and it is working.

I blocked access to youtube.com and I receive notification of blocked URL when he tries to access it.

I removed YouTube app.

Two questions:

  • Norton Family browser offers YouTube videos within it: are they cheked? I mean, the video he finds are good for the age I set in Norton Family?
  • If youtube.com is blocked and YT app is not present, what are the videos I see listed in the video report? Are they the ones that play within Norton Family browser?

Thank you!

Re: Norton Family Browser offers YouTube video: are they verified?

Hi @pdario,

   Please find our answers below:

  • "Norton Family browser offers YouTube videos within it: are they cheked? I mean, the video he finds are good for the age I set in Norton Family?"

If the child is searching in Youtube and if you have turned on SafeSearch under Search Supervision section in House Rules, then the resulting videos will be filtered.

  • "If youtube.com is blocked and YT app is not present, what are the videos I see listed in the video report? Are they the ones that play within Norton Family browser?"

Once youtube.com is blocked, the child will not be able to see the videos using Norton Family browser. However, we will still report those videos for parents to notice in portal/parent app. Can you confirm if the videos are reported as blocked activities?

Re: Norton Family Browser offers YouTube video: are they verified?

  • He's not searching in YouTube, he does search on ask.com or google.com and he can play videos from the search results: are those filtered?
  • He IS able to see videos in NF browser! As I said, I receive reports of youtube.com being blocked (I understand this is when he tries to tap on the video related content), but the videos he sees are reported as played in the video report. Is this wrong?

What do you think is the problem, exatcly? Should the video be forbidden? Or what?

I mean: I'm happy with the current situation, provided that the videos are filtered.

Re: Norton Family Browser offers YouTube video: are they verified?

Hi @pdario,

The child should not be able to see the videos as the block screen will be showed. Can you please confirm this? We are investigating as to whether and why video activities are reported despite the child not being able to view them. If we find something to be addressed from our end in this regard, we will update you. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Thanks,

Re: Norton Family Browser offers YouTube video: are they verified?

I'm still not sure we understand each other.

I'll try to recap.

  1. Only browser available: Norton Family
  2. YouTube app disabled on phone
  3. youtube.com blocked in NF rules for child (I receive notifications that youtube.com and m.youtube.com have been blocked)
  4. Child search for "East 17" within Norton Family browser (I see this activity in the logs)
  5. The search results present different YT videos from East 17
  6. These videos can be played within search results
  7. Child can't get to YT with NF browser
  8. Videos are listed in the child activity

As I said, I'm happy with this ONLY IF NF browser filters inappropriate videos.

Is this the case?

Do you see anything wrong?

Re: Norton Family Browser offers YouTube video: are they verified?

Hi @pdario,
As mentioned earlier, if you enable SafeSearch under House Rules->Search Supervision section, then search content will be filtered in the supported search engines listed in that section.
