Norton Family issue

Yup.  You are not alone.

I think we have come to expect that Safe Web not working properly is a feature, lol. {;-D

Yeah, I think the last I left off here, I contacted a Norton representative at 1-877-788-4877 who established a remote connection to attempt a fix for Norton Family, however, ended up damaging my system, then, had the outright gall to not take responsibility for his actions.  Suffice it to say, I was not overwhelmingly pleased with this.  Being that I have taken computer classes on the college level, I was like, "Let me just look into this myself...."  Thankfully, I was able to get my system back up to speed sans Norton Family....  Some may say, "Well, if you’re so knowledgeable, why didn't you just fix Norton yourself?"  I would say, first, it's not my program, second, I figured the people getting paid for a living to work on this stuff would have a firmer grasp of it, and third, I just don't follow computers as closely anymore.  Frankly, I love dealing with Nintendo products and services (not just because I'm "Hammer Bro") but because (at least in my experience) they just work.  Some may argue, “Nintendo systems have no comparable sophistication in scope of computer processes”.  I wouldn’t be so quick to cast judgement, the 3DS and Wii U have a tremendous deal of intricacy and yet still work

When I expressed this harrowing experience with a Norton Supervisor, he decided to "pro-rate" a refund to my credit card, however, the refund was not anything compared to the time 1.) I had to take to remedy what the Symantec Employee did to my system 2.) Taking into consideration that Norton Online Family's protection of my system was spotty at best, and, there were segments of time where Norton Online Family was completely not working with no authoritative solutions from Symantec and I just graciously forgave this discrepancy while still paying for unworkable service.  Ah, the stuff lawsuits are made of....  Anyway, I am happy to report that I am very pleased with Windows Live Family Safety and see it, in many regards, as more comprehensive in its ability to filter inappropriate materials.  Who knows?  Maybe in another year, if Norton/Symantec gets it act together, I may give NOF another chance.  On some level, it’s sad.  Many of you know that I try to give Symantec the benefit of the doubt, even defending the company in the face of numerous scathing criticisms, however, what happened to me here was just beyond the pale.

Optimally, I believe that Norton should reintegrate the parental controls back into the main antivirus program.  When that was the case, things worked as they should and I had less regrets.  Please note:- I will most likely be renewing my Norton 360 subscription, that, I still believe in.

There is so much other stuff I should post, but, my work schedule these days just doesn’t seem to let up….

Before I go, I want to congratulate ProTruckDriver on his promotion on this forum as well as hitting over 12,000 reviews over on Safe Web - - that is no small accomplishment and duly noted.

If I don’t get to talk to you sooner, best regards,

H.B.

Re: Norton Family issue

Hello Ms. Qiu,

How are you?  It has been some time since our last conversation.  To be honest, I believe I have already taken significant time to document multiple issues with the Norton Online Family protection not only on this forum, but to representatives via phone all for which did not seem to yield lasting fixes.  My time for this software has come and gone.  I will leave you with this, however.  I believe the code to be inherently flawed and must be re-written from the ground up with potentially a new software development team.  Furthermore, it must be a collaborative effort across multiple platforms for the environment with which the software will work.  For example, at one point, NOF would prevent G-Mail attachments from uploading.  You must find a way to network with Google top software engineers and figure out why that was happening.  Overall, this issue is moot.  It's not as if NOF is even on my system anymore and I am not putting it back on my comp to perform deeper troubleshooting to pull more hair out.  Like I said previously, I may try back in another year, and, even at that, I would have to see dramatic change in the program and limited negative banter about the software on the various tech forums I frequent.

Have a good day,

H.B.
