Re: norton family not working on mac

I figured out it is because it doesn't run on Safari 5.1.  I have it working on Firefox, now I just have to figure out how to delete the Safari browser on my son's account without removing it on mine.

Thanks

Re: norton family not working on mac

I think if you go to System Preferences -> Users & Groups -> Parental Controls you can disable applications for specific users. I did that for my kid a while back and only allow him access to certain apps on the machine, including Safari. This is a good article discussing Parental Controls:  http://gigaom.com/apple/kid-proofing-a-mac-with-parental-controls/

Re: norton family not working on mac

The article is quite informative but when log into parental controls on my machine I get different choices.  Not System, Content, Mail and ichat, etc but rather Apps, web,People, Time Limits, etc and I can't figure out how to make Safari off limits.  Maybe there parental control design has changed since the article was written.  Do you have any thoughts about this?

Thanks

Re: norton family not working on mac

I was just looking at it last night for my kid's account. Click the "Apps" tab and select "Limit Applications".  Then you have the ability to select the apps that account has access to. By not selecting Safari it is not available to for the user to run.

Thanks once again. Oddly, I did check that but did not find Safari listed. So very frustrating.
