Dear Tech Support!
I am using windows 7, but I am having the same issue. Can you please help me?
Also, I was told by one of your tech support rep that there is an issue with the server atm. Is this real?
Please help. Thank you.
Thanks for your answer; Unfortunately the provided solution did not solve the issue.
I retried a clean installation in Windows 10 but I cannot get it to work; It seems there is some error during the installation which causes this problem. Unfortunately I cannot get any insight in the details of this error
Solution was easy for me: Make sure that there aren't any spaces in your profile details (on the Norton family account settings online). For example 'LastName1 LastName2' results 'server temporarily unavailable'. If you change it to 'LastName1LastName2' the problem was solved.
Crazy that in 2016 an application can't handle a simple space in the naming. :-(
Thank you Rudie, but its not the case for me. I dont have spaces there. In fact I have last and surname, so there are two separate fields for this.
removing the spaces from my lastname did the trick. Thanks
Thanks for the update.
I'm trying to get Norton Family to add a Win 10 laptop so that I can monitor that device but I get this same error message after the "name your device" dialog box. I've managed to add a win 7 laptop without any problems so I don't think it's a problem with norton family server!
Could you please help?
I am having this issue too. Not sure why you don't just post the solution to help anyone else with this issue.
I've run into the same issue.
The Norton family systray icon has had a small x on it for a couple of weeks and the tooltip reports "Parent action is required".
I logged into the Norton Family site but it didn't report any issues, so I didn't take it any further until I realised that it was not policing the time my children spent on the computer.
I then tried to click on the edit accounts menu item and when I entered my login credentials it reported "Norton Family was unable to retrieve your list of child accounts. Check you are connected to the internet and try again."
I decided to try uninstalling the app and found that I get the "server temporarily unavailable" message either before I get to enter my credentials, or else directly after I have supplied them.
What do I need to do to get the app working again and policing the time my children spend on the computer?
Thanks for the comments in the thread. The reason I don't publish the steps is I don't want any children to use the information to tamper the system (If they do, Norton Family would detect that and send alert to the parent, but I don't want to create that opportunity for them). That was the reason I sent the information to you by private message :-)
Just wanted to post an update on my situation. I've just had a remote session with Katie and everything is running well now. As she explained in an earlier post, the NF team don't want to post any solution in this forum to minimise the risk of your child tampering with your system. So if you are having problems, please message Katie and she will give you some steps to try. If those steps don't work (as in my case), then a remote session might be needed. The remote session is painless to set up and you will be able to chat with Katie via a messaging window. She will also be able to view your screen and edit settings as required.
One thing we noticed when working on my computer is that for some reason we couldn't edit my NF account from the icon in the task bar. Instead we had to log in to my account via the NF website and only then could we associate my computer with my child's account. So if the options when right clicking on the icon are greyed out, you might want to try logging in via the website and adjusting the settings from there instead.
Thanks again Katie and keep up the good work ;)
I am having the same problem everyone else here... please send me the info to resolve the issue.
