Norton Family Time Supervision New Facility Request

When time limit is over , the device (android)is locked. The child may be in emergency so phone and messaging app must be available for use even after time limit is over.
I am aware of the pin facility.By entering the pin , it is possible to unlock the device. But the whole purpose of time limit is defeated if pin is provided to the child. The child can use the phone after exhausting the time limit by entering the pin even in non emergency situations. The "pin business " is useless. There must be some setting to allow certain apps(most important are phone and messaging app) when the device is locked.

Re: Norton Family Time Supervision New Facility Request

Hello anjumsah353 Emergency calls are allowed after the time limits are reached per this thread:

https://community.norton.com/en/forums/how-allow-emergency-911-calls-during-time-supervision

For allowing other apps please see "Defining House Rules" in this article.

Re: Norton Family Time Supervision New Facility Request

Hi anjumsah353,

Welcome to the Norton Community!

Thanks for your valuable suggestion.

We will pass this on to the management team.

Today, Time supervision restricts the use of all the device apps after reaching daily limit and maximum six allowed contacts can be added. So, child can receive/make calls to these contacts during blocked hours.

Steps to add allowed contacts:

In Portal:

House Rules->Time Supervision->Allowed Contacts->Add

In Parent app:

Rules->Time Supervision->Select Device->Allowed Contacts->Add contact

Thanks

Re: Norton Family Time Supervision New Facility Request

I have added some allowed contacts. But all voice calls in android devices are handled by "Phone" app. So whenever I try to call some allowed contacts,"Phone" app tries to launch, but as time limit is exhausted,Norton blocks the "Phone " app.So I am back to square one. Pl. modify your software code.Pl. read my My previous post carefully.

The allowed contact facility is as good as dummy.

Re: Norton Family Time Supervision New Facility Request

Hi anjumsah353 ,

Thanks for the update. Please confirm you have followed either one of the below steps to make calls to allowed contacts

1. Tap on Allowed Contacts option in Block page->Select any one of the contact to call from the list

2. Open NF app->Tap on profile picture in top left corner->Select Allowed contacts->Select any one of the contact to call from the list

If issue still exists, please also follow the steps below and send debug logs after re-producing the issue to troubleshoot further.

Steps to take debug logs:

  • Open NF Browser->Tap on profile picture in top left corner
  • Select the last option ‘Contact Us’ from the menu
  • Enable Debug logs
  • Open NF Browser->Contact Us->Request the user to enter your ‘Email Address’ (you can find my email address under my profile in the forum) to send the debug logs

Re: Norton Family Time Supervision New Facility Request

Hi anjumsah353 ,

Thanks for sharing the logs.

We analyzed the debug logs and device specification. It looks like the device has dual SIM and due to that every time we make a call from the device it will ask the user to select SIM1 or SIM2 to proceed with the call. As we block the SIM selection screen during time limit, child is not able to make calls. So, please set SIM preference for call in your device to avoid block page during call.

Steps to follow:

Settings->SIM cards->Voice Calls->Please select SIM1/SIM2 instead of 'Ask every time'

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Devi AK

Re: Norton Family Time Supervision New Facility Request

Pre- setting a sim(say sim1) for voice calls solves the issue. But I have the following reservation about this solution.
In a emergency situation, it may happen that there is no signal on sim1, then child will not be able to make calls through sim2.Also it may happen that there is not sufficient talktime credit on sim1.

I have the following suggestions to make.

1>Allow sim selection during blocking period.(There is no logical reason to block sim selection).and/or design a setting to allow the parents to make that choice( whether to allow sim selection or not.

2>Provide access to all phone contacts during blocking period, or increase the number of allowed contacts and/or design a setting to allow the parents to make such choices.

Note:While it is important to protect child again online threats such porn, gambling etc and prevent mobile addiction,it is equally(or rather much more) important to provide flexibility to the child during emergency situations.

I admit that you have designed a great app, but some improvements will make it stand out from other products.

Re: Norton Family Time Supervision New Facility Request

Also I noticed all incoming calls (including allowed contacts) are blocked when time limit is over.
