What Data Sanitization Method (Protocol) does Norton File Shredder use?

Norton File Shredder appears to use National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Special Publication 800-88 Revision 1. Without reading the entire 56 page publication (attached) I'm not sure just how the sanitization is applied (e.g., over write passes, "1" or "0" random characters etc.)
The Norton File Shredder program does allow some customization in the setup.
