Norton Ghost taking a long time to restore an image

Hello.

Previously as I have a system full of software and files, two (2) hours and around ten (10) minutes was the standard time to restore an image.

I would put in boot disk, boot of course, select drive C and once it had done its five per cent (5%) it would declare two (2) hours and ten (10) minutes before finish.

Yesterday (6th September 2016) I needed to restore an image. So did the business, boot disk, selected drive C, waited for the five per cent (5%) and it was quick to then to tell me six (6) hours before reboot. I put in disk at 16:03 hours, the restore finally finished on the 7th September 2016 at 00:46 p.m.

Nearly nine (9) hours.

I run Windows Seven (7) professional SP1, I have 16 g.b. r.a.m. and my disks are one hundred per cent (100%) via recordings in H.D. Sentinel Professional.

That is Hybrid Hard Disk Drive, and two (2) two (2) t.b. u.s.b. two (2) portable drives.

Any ideas, I am going to install a 960 g.b. s.s.d. and I don't want problems, soon.

It works the same for me too.  I have two pcs.   My desktop has about  350 gigs used and my laptop has close to the same.  It takes me about 4 1/2 hours to restore a pc and about 2 1/2 to 3 hours to image one.  It's no big deal for me.  I will have it do this while I am sleeping.

Hello.

Thanks for the reply, that is not what should happen. It primarily takes two (2) hours for a backup then increments a few minutes.

Restore used to be two (2) hours plus now nearly eleven (11) this is not right, there has to be an answer to why the increase.

I used Norton Ghost when it was drive image by PowerQuest and never had this problem then.

What changed between the fast and long restores, the hard drive?

I never used a hybrid drive but would suspect the problem may be how the drive is handling the data transfer from the SSD to the platters.

Also remember that Ghost 15 came out a long time ago and uses a Vista based recovery disk.  It contains drivers from when Vista SP 1 came out and they may be giving less than optimal support.

I have one system that takes about 4 times as long to make a cold image from the recovery disc as it does from within windows.  Some of that may be because Windows is using 16GB of RAM and using a lot of it for disk caching, while the 32bit recovery disc is only being able to use less than 4GB.  But some of it is because of the drivers, I can speed it up to a certain extent by loading more current drivers before making the image.

But something must have changed if your restores went from 2 hours to 9 hours.

Maybe a flaky USB cable working at USB 1 speed?
