norton halt not setting up

At USSD Exploit I click "Set Up". I then click "Set Up Now". It then tells me it going to take me to the People App and I should "Clear Defaults" then return to Norton Halt.

I click "Continue" and I click "Clear Defaults" (by the way above the "Clear Defaults" buton it says ... "No Defaults Set")

I return to Norton Halt and click "Set Up Now" again and it asks me to do the above again.

Please help!

Re: norton halt not setting up

Hi gouws.

Welcome to the Norton Community Forums.

Sorry you are having a problem.  I'm not sure if it is related to something we have seen before, but to help us try and work out what may be happening would you mind giving us a bit more information?

What device are you using and what version of Android?  Also is the device rooted?

Is this the first time you have tried to use Halt or did it previously work and only now has the problem arisen?  If the latter, can you give us any idea of what may have changed?  What version of Halt are you using - (Halt - menu - about ... mine is currently 5.0.0.106)?

When you come to the Clear Defaults screen does it say that anything else is set as default?

I look forward to hearing back from you.

Re: norton halt not setting up

Hi

Yes I had it working fine on my phone since previous version. I updated "Halt" and then "Turned Protection Off" (dont know why I did it) and when I wanted to setup again it on it does as I said previously.

When I clear defaults it does not say anything it doesnt even make a "click" sound when I click the button. I have checked with "Default App Manager Lite" and it does not show Halt as an option in the default phone list only people app?

I have HTC One Android 4.2.2 not rooted

Halt version 5.0.0.106

It says no defaults set at clear defaults button people app.

Thanx

Re: norton halt not setting up

Hi gouws.

Thanks for the speedy response.  I have a horrible feeling this is an issue brought about by the latest update of Halt and which you inadvertently triggered by un-setting the USSD exploit.  I am drawing it to the attention of the team in the hope that they can quickly get to the bottom of it.

May I ask you to do one more thing?  Can you go into Settings: Apps: Norton Halt and see if defaults are set there.  I think you will find they are.  Either way do not unset it just let us know what you find.

All the best.

Hi

Thank you for your quick response!

I checked Halt and at "Clear Defaults" it says "No Defaults Set" too.

Re: norton halt not setting up

I got the same problem too.  However I was able to make a work around.  There are some steps involved so here they are:

When Halt asks you to clear the data within the Contacts (App); hopefully there is a Turn Off feature?

So

1-Launch Norton Halt

2-Set Up the USSD

3-Norton asks to clear data within Contacts
4-Clear Data, Clear Cache, Force Stop and Turn off the CONTACTS app

4a. By doing this, you have disabled your Contacts and if you had the Phone & Contact shortcut on your homescreen they will both go away

5.Go back to Norton Halt

6. Choose Setup and it should enable Norton Halt

7. Go back into Android App Manager, find your Turned Off apps, and re enable Contacts

Norton Halt should still be enabled

Re: norton halt not setting up

PS. You might have to reboot Phone so you can get the

Phone App

Contact App (Shortcut)

Re: norton halt not setting up

Hmmm, ya know what?

DONT DO THE ABOVE MENTIONED.  After reboot I actually did lose my Phone App

I gotta dig deep to find it, brb

ROFL!!! Bah I accidentally re disabled Contacts is the reason why I couldnt find my Phone App

Re: norton halt not setting up

Well worked out Itolman, but I would not normally recommend taking such a route as I am not sure everyone could rely on the result.  As you appear to have found.  Though I am glad that you now seem to have rectified things.

I hope that Norton will soon have a simpler and more reliable fix.

I would certainly recommend that no one un-set the USSD Exploit after the upgrade until a fix is announced.

Same thing here since Norton Halt updated.

This is another Norton Mobile product I can no longer use on my android device, although Brian has told me the problem with NMS will be fixed in an upcoming patch.

HTC Wildfire S

Android version 2.3.5

Re: norton halt not setting up

Well I think I'm gonna have to wait because Norton Halt keeps asking me to re set up device.

Sure my method worked but apparently it was just for several hours....I re set it up...then several hours it asks me to set it up again.

So I will wait!

Re: norton halt not setting up

Hi gouws

I am sure the Norton Mobile Team is working hard to get the update to Google Play

for Norton Halt users to gain the fix mentioned in the post from Jon from the Norton

Mobile Team at Symantec..

When the update is available for your device the Norton Mobile Team will probably

notify us all thru the Norton Community Forums with an anouncment that the update

is now available in Googe Play.

Also i am sure your device will notify you when the update is ready to be downloaded

and installed via the Google Play app and the update notifications that it uses. :)

So i guess it is just a matter of checking in with the Norton Community Forums from

time to time and also keep a check on your device and it's update notifications.

Cheers.

Re: norton halt not setting up

Update for all.

I noticed an update for Norton Halt in Google Play today (Version 5.0.0.108) and it has solved this issue for me.  Hopefully for everyone else as well!

Thank you to the Norton team - a nice little Christmas present.  :-)

Edit - gouws had earlier marked a post by smithy as "solution", as it was not solved at that time I had unmarked it as a solution (more a hope at the time).  I leave it to gouws to decide if he wishes to remark that post or any other as the solution, or not.
