Norton Identify Safe and Firefox 42

I don't need a solution.  The FAQ is clear.

I'm just a long, long time Norton user through Comcast and I LUV Identity Safe. I also LUV Firefox.

So, I simply am posting to encourage Norton to do everything possible to enable Norton Identity Safe to work with Firefox as soon as possible!!

Re: Norton Identify Safe and Firefox 42

Based on Symantec's track record of the last few years in "timely" releasing patches to keep in synch with Firefox updates (and this was without the significant current binary XP-COM API issue), my guess is that the functionality of the NIS won't be restored until the release of Firefox 45 or 46!

So as the swallows return to Capistrano and the buzzards to Hinckley, Ohio, the rest of us will hopefully be able to mark the arrival of spring with the NIS once again functional with Firefox.

My comment is nice going FIREFOX!  Great way to increase the usage of Chrome, Internet Explorer and other browsers.

Re: Norton Identify Safe and Firefox 42

I tired of this whole thing and am now on Chrome for the past few weeks.  It works great.  It would be good to know when this gets fixed so that I can consider returning to Firefox.

...or Trend Micro that has a password manager that, currently, works just fine on Firefox.

So, I'll run one security software on each computer awhile and see how they compare.

There's no comparing Firefox to the others...

Try Firefox Password Manager with Master Password for Local Vault.
Try KeePass Password Safe with Extension for Local Vault.
Try Enpass for PC-Desktop Free with Extension for Local Vault.
Try LastPass Free with Multifactor Authentication Free for Online Vault.

Do you know if any of these programs can import and use the data file from identity safe? Thx.

Sorry, haven't run Norton IDSafe in awhile.  I've run KeePass for two years and have imported KeePass xml into Enpass.

Re: Norton Identify Safe and Firefox 42

I finally gave up on Identity Safe...and wasn't happy about it.  I downloaded and installed LastPass and Dashlane and am going to pick one of those after I test drive them for a few days.  I was able to import my passwords from Identity Safe so I didn't have to start over.  I really liked Identity Safe but I need a product that works with FireFox...all of the time.  And no I am not endorsing any one product...just saying I have to move on and posting the two best free ones I found so far.

Thx.  Good to know you can import from identity safe.  Will look into these options.

Re: Norton Identify Safe and Firefox 42

You export your data as a csv file and then you can import it.  Had to mess with the data after I imported...imports don't always go perfect...but it was about 95% correct.  Was a massive time saver!

As a side note - they both are really good programs...actually more comprehensive and more features than Norton...interface is a bit more intuitive as well.  I am not getting the premium versions - sticking with the free one.

Doesn't Dashlane charge a lot if you want to use it with Android devices? Am I looking in the wrong place?

Happy to hear you are satisfied using Trend Password Manager while Norton struggles to find an acceptable solution.

"The release of a security report from Google has revealed major issues with Trend Micro's security software which have opened its users up to remote code execution and password theft from its supposedly 'secure' internal storage."

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/bits/2016/01/12/trend-micro-flaws/1?utm_sou...

It was patched last Wednesday but you were open to a serious vulnerability for a period of time. Trend lost a lot of cred. with this one.

"Password Manager flaw will hurt Trend Micro's reputation

There is an inherent trust given to the makers of security tools, so when they screw up it really hurts. These are the companies we count on to keep us safe from malware. They are the last ones we want falling down on the job.

But unfortunately Trend Micro did just that and it was a doozy........."

If you used Trend's PW Manager before  last Wednesday probably a good idea to change your passwords and use a second opinion scanner like Free Trial of HitmanPro or Free Malwarebytes.

Re: Norton Identify Safe and Firefox 42

Yes LastPass and Dashlane both charge an annual fee ($12 and $40 respectively) for their premium versions.  Seems most of the higher end password managers charge for a premium version - usually that means you get cross platform syncing (windows/android/apple etc) and a few other bells and whistles.  I am sticking with the free version for now as I only keep important things on my windows PC and never on my phone.  I am one of the old timers that use my phone as a phone mainly so I don't care much about syncing to other OS's.

Decent article in by PC mag regarding best password managers for 2016...reasonable review of the current state of affairs so to speak

Re: Norton Identify Safe and Firefox 42

Well, I am old school as well and it is my wife that has the Phone/Tablet! I did not subscribe to PCMag as the mag asks for all kinds of permissions! I can look online for the artical though.

If it ain't broke, fix it 'til it is!
