Norton Identity Protection renders Google Plus page useless

Hi,

I just wanted to draw attention to this issue that I know is part of a 'bigger' problem (namely Norton Identity Protection/Safe toolbar not being totally compatible with Google Chrome's latest version). I have the latest version of Norton 360 (6.3.0.14) and whenever the NIS add-on is enabled in Chrome lots of pages display problems (page staying blank unless I switch tabs, Chrome window not displaying its full size, by which I mean that the bottom part of the window gets chopped off, and Google Plus not responding at all: I can't post comments, open my photos... The only thing I'm able to do is scroll up and down my stream)

When I hide the Norton toolbar, many problems seem to go away like the Chrome window displaying its full size and webpages opening without trouble, however, Google plus remains 'blocked' - so frustrating...

If I disable the Norton add-on in Chrome then everything works like a charm. G+ recovers its full functionality and a big smile comes to my face.

I love the Norton Identity Safe feature and use it a lot to store all my logins. In the meanwhile I've been using Firefox 14 and IE9 without any problem with the Norton toolbar but I'm just a sucker for Chrome, I'd like to recover the functionality that I had in this browser previously, even when I was using the Norton toolbar.

I hope this gets fixed soon. :-)

Having the same problem here - I read about the workaround of hiding the NIS toolbar, but that doesn't seem to work with G+. Any attempt to switch to my photos page just results in a permanent "loading..." message.

I hope this gets fixed sooner than later...

Same problem here.

@CaptBananaPants

Did you try to end the Norton Identity Protection Process from within Chrome? I did, and after that I just reloaded the Google+ page, which makes it work fine again. If you just end the process you will have to do it every time you close and open Chrome. Hopefully Symantec will solve this within reasonable time.

I have the same problem.  The latest version of Norton Internet security 2012 with the latest patches (version 19.8.0.14) causes that Google+ does not work with the most current Google Chrome browser (version 21.0.1180.83) when Norton Toolbar is enabled.

Hopefully Symantec will fix this problem soon, Google browser is used by many folks.  The only work-around is to disable Norton toolbar completely or to use Internet Explorer or Firefox that do not have this issue.

Can you provide more info how to end the "Norton Identity Protection process from within Chrome" without disabling Norton Toolbar?  Thanks.  --Ondrej

Same here - disable Norton in extensions, all is fine.  Enable, page is locked down.  Ridiculous.

If you click the wrench in Google Chrome and then, from the drop down menu, click View Background Pages, you can select the Norton Identity Protection and click End Process in the lower right of the dialog box. After that you can reload the page. If you do it this way, however, you will have to do it every time you open Chrome.

Otherwise you will need to disable the extention. Click the wrench and then Tools - Extensions. You will find the Norton Identity Protection there with a check box to the right. Just uncheck it and restart Chrome. It should take care of it.

Disabling the extension is a matter of personal choice and risk. You lose your anti-phishing technology protection for the toolbar and identity safe. This renders the Norton toolbar unsafe to use.

Did everyone get their patch updates that required a restart ? It has helped many in these forums as they have reported.

I installed the latest Norton Internet Security 2012 update.  The latest version of Norton Internet security 2012 with the latest patches (version 19.8.0.14) causes that Google Plus does not work with the most current Google Chrome browser (version 21.0.1180.83) when Norton Toolbar is enabled.

Google Plus not working for me either on Google Chorme. Does not let me navigate around the pages if I click on the buttons.

No problem when I key in URL of the target pages, though. But Google Plus is definitely not working the way it should on Google Chrome.

Already ran live update and rebooted system. No joy.

When will Symantec fix this problem?

I think it may be helpful if you try contacting them. They have a nice chat feature that seems to work fine.

Thanks Michael.  I reported this issue to Symantec including the Web link where the developers can learn more about this defect. Unfortunatelly none of Symantec's representatives was available but they provided me with the case id [Removed]. Hopefully the defect will be resolved soon. :-)

Re: Norton Identity Protection renders Google Plus page useless

I'm having various problems with Gmail while using Google Chrome when I have the Norton Toolbar/Norton Identity Safe enabled. When I disable it I dont have any problems at all. This is only a problem in Google Chrome.

It seems that this problem hasn't been fixed yet. Any comments?

One month passed & this problem hasn't been fixed yet.

Re: Norton Identity Protection renders Google Plus page useless

With Norton Identity Protection enabled, some other pages do not display fully, such as westjet.com. Is there anyway to have the Norton toolbar displayed without Norton Identity Protection enabled?

Hi again!

A couple of weeks ago, on the Norton Tray Icon, I clicked the "Search for new version" (or something similair depending on language). There was a new version of Norton Internet Security (20.1.1.2). That version also contains a newer  version of Norton Identity Protection. It is activated and seems to work fine.

Regards,

Michael
