Norton Internet Security and Winodw 10 Preview

It appears from experience and forum threads, running Norton Internet Security under Windows 10 Preview is not a good idea. Is the only viable alternative to uninstall Norton Security and really on Windows built in security? Is it worth installing NIS 25 Beta?

Hello RealGomer

Norton Internet Security will not work with Windows 10 Preview. I wouldn't suggest relying on Windows built in protection.  You can beta test Norton Security or Norton Security with Backup for free. Instructions on how to do this is located in the Beta Forum for Window 10 Preview. It would be version 22.5 of either program.

But the BETA test for NS on Win10 is only for U.S. users.

I just installed Avira FREE on Windows 10.

Hello SGFC

Have you tried getting the Beta from Norton? I know someone from Australia who has it.

You're right it looks like it's available worldwide now. I was going by Tony's announcement. Maybe I'll give it a try.

IMHO,

I think the title of the current NS beta forum ...

Norton Security | Norton Security with Backup Beta for Windows 10 compatibility

suffices well to explain the best course of action regarding which NS to use if you're planing to test the Windows 10 Preview...

Hello

Norton Security and Norton Internet Security similarity in names is confusing some people.

I keep getting an error message I need to renew the Beta. Trouble is, when I try, I get a Code 0100 error saying it can't be renewed. Sheesh.

Re: Norton Internet Security and Winodw 10 Preview

Hello RealGomer

Welcome to the Norton Community Forum.

If you are running Norton Security 22.5.0.120, you have received a defective update to that version. To fix it, you need to run the Norton Removal Tool and then download the copy of the program that is in mynortonaccount.com . That should fix the running beta has expired. The actual Beta program for the Windows 10 has ended.

if you are running a different version, please let us know. Thanks.

Re: Norton Internet Security and Winodw 10 Preview

Talk about confusion. Norton just released Norton Security 22.5.0.124 and Norton Internet Security 22.5.0.124 for Windows 10. Both NIS 20 and 21 got updated to 22 but use the same old license. Don't know if the GUI changed as I am waiting on my NIS to update.

Hi, Jim. Did you see Tony's post ?

So, does NIS, NAV & N360 remain as EOA

Yes.

Symantec screwed this up big time!

v22 / 22.5 is a dog's breakfast.  What a mess they have made of things!

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer.

Re: Norton Internet Security and Winodw 10 Preview

NIS, NAV, and N360 remain as EOA (End of Availability). Even on older versions, we continue to release updates. As it appears Windows 10 will become available to many people in the next month or so, we want to ensure Windows 10 compatibility for all those customers, whether they're running our older products, or Norton Security.
