Norton Internet Security conflicts with User Account Control Settings

I have just updated to a newer version of Norton internet security.  The software only runs when I have set my user account control settings in the windows control panel to the lowest possible level.  Any level higher than that level leads to effect that software does not run + menu entries for Norton Internet Security in Start Menu have disappeared.

When lowering the control setings to the lowest level and restart, Norton Internet Security runs again.

However, I would consider this not desirable as it leaves the control settings unused.

Looking forward to a resolution.

Regards.

Re: Norton Internet Security conflicts with User Account Control Settings

Hello Edgar

It sounds like you might have a corrupted installation of the program. I would suggest that you run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool. Before running the Tool, please backup your Identity Safe by backing up using dat and CSV formats. Please read the warning paragraph.. Please run Live Update until no more updates and then restart to help it settle into your computer.

Re: Norton Internet Security conflicts with User Account Control Settings

Hi Floplot,

I have used the Removal and Reinstall tool twice. Once without altering my UserAccountControlSettings and one more time when I changed these settings to Windows default before running the program. I have also run Live Update until no more Updates where provided.

Until today, I still have to lower the User Account Control Settings to the lowest level (basically stopping them) for Norton Internet Security to work. Interestingly, when I set the Control Settings to a higher level, the entries for Norton Internet Security are not visible in the Start Menu. When I change the settings back to the lowest possible level and restart Windows, the menu entries reappear.

I have installed version 22.5.2.15 of Norton Internet Security. I have this issue at 2 of the 3 machines I have Norton Internet Security working on. All installations have been updated to this latest version and all work under Windows 7.

Looking forward to additional tips from your side.

Regards,

Edgar

Re: Norton Internet Security conflicts with User Account Control Settings

Hello Edgar.Peet,
Um, did you originally install Norton in default Admin user account and are you running NRnR from Admin user and does UAC react the same from Admin user.

Re: Norton Internet Security conflicts with User Account Control Settings

On my laptop I installed and ran Removal and Reinstall not from the default Admin Account but from a different user account which also has administrator rights.  The default Admin account is reserved for our IT guys.

On the desktop, I used for both installation and removal and reinstall my own user account which has administrator rights as well.
