Norton Live Update

I have run Live Update and get a message about a patch. I have selected Apply Now but when I re-run Live Update I still get the message about a patch. I am using Windows 7. I have contacted Norton by Web Chat and they assure me everything is okay. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Norton Live Update

My previous post should have read Norton Live Update and NOT Windows Live Update

Re: Norton Live Update

I also choose to Apply Later, then restart my machine.  I find I have better luck that way.

When some patches are released they come in phases.

3. How can I manually install these patches?

This patch is ONLY available via LiveUpdate, and is being released in a phased manner. You may need to run LiveUpdate and reboot a few times before your product is completely updated to the latest version.

Re: Norton Live Update

I have often seen this multiple Patch scenario. Nothing to worry about.

As Krusty13 notes, it is always a good idea to do a couple of LiveUpdate runs with system restarts between when you do get a patch.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Norton Live Update

Thank you for your reply. I have done what you stated several times and I still get a message about a patch when I run Live Update. This situation is really unacceptable. Perhaps someone from Norton will read this and put things right!!!!

I have now lost my Norton icon altogether. This is unacceptable.

Re: Norton Live Update

Where you you get your copy of Norton?

At this point I would suggest you download and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall Tool.  This will download a fresh new copy of your Norton product, uninstall your current copy and after a system restart will install the new copy.  Please read the "Before you begin" section at the top of that page.

When you have your new copy installed please remember to run Live Update, restarting instead of clicking Apply Now.  Continue running Live Update, restarting where required until no more updates are available.

Please let us know how you get on.

Re: Norton Live Update

Have you restarted your computer since installing the update? Not Shutdown and start up again if you have Windows Fast Startup feature enabled. If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.

Re: Norton Live Update

The Norton icon is back. Have run Live Update again this morning. 4 updates and still I get the message about a patch available. When is this going to go?

Re: Norton Live Update

I got my Norton from Norton. Have run Live Update again this morning. 4 updates. Still message about a patch. When is this going to go. This is only happening on Windows 7 laptop. The Norton on Windows 10 laptop is fine. Although history states Live Update is complete.

Re: Norton Live Update

I have given you advice.  I can't offer any more suggestions if you choose not to follow that advice.

Good luck!

Re: Norton Live Update

It might be easy for you to say remove and reinstall but I am not that computer savvy. I thought Live Update was supposed to be automatic?? But thanks for your help and advice. I will get in touch with Norton Webchat again.

Re: Norton Live Update

The Remove and Reinstall Tool does all the hard work for you.

... but if you feel Support can do that better then best of luck.

Did you even check my link?

Re: Norton Live Update

Finally, having spent 90 minutes online to Norton I have taken your advice and used remove and reinstall. That has worked perfectly. Thank you for your advice I should have taken it in the first instance. So much for Norton Live Chat. Once again thank you.
