Norton for Mac 7.0 Application Blocking forgets authorised apps

I'm running Norton Security for Mac 7.0  on OX 10.11.1 and have Application blocking switched on.  However, I've discovered that Norton randomly 'forgets' which apps I have authorised and starts prompting for authorisation again.  I was not aware of this issue in version 6.4, so something has changed.

I've got the same issue. I've discovered this issue on clean install of El Capitan and clean Norton Security 7.0 install so it is not caused by update from 6.4 to 7.0. Dear Symantec when can we get hot fix?

exactly the same for me! Starting as an upgrade from version 6.4, I removed all realated files via RemoveSymantecMacFiles.zip: reinstalling NS7 after reboot and from a cleaned osx did not help!

i exactly have the same problem on my iMac running El Capitan 10.11.3 . Norton security keeps asking permission for the same applications over and over. The version of the software is 7.0.1. Please fix it!

I raised a ticket for this over three months ago and I've chased it twice.  I'm promised a call on Friday to discuss - will update after that takes place

Re: Norton for Mac 7.0 Application Blocking forgets authorised apps

Just had a support call yesterday regarding this issue; the proposed solution was a removal, and reinstallation of the software.  I can assure you, this did not fix the problem.

Anyone else notice that application blocking messages from the firewall are not suppressed by "silent" mode?

Same issue across 3 machines, random repeat requests for authorisation of the same applications following reboot/startup... the one that really annoys me is for my Dropbox access.

This upgrade was a retrograde step!

Same issue here.
Every single time I open Word, Excel, NetGear Genie, Safari, GoogleDrive... EVERY SINGLE APP..
Norton asks me over and over and over again if I want to add each app to the trusted list. I add them and check that they are there, but when I reboot and launch any application I am back to square one.

I have tried adding the applications to the list manually - same issue.

Re: Norton for Mac 7.0 Application Blocking forgets authorised apps

So, after 5 months, two remote sessions and a number of Facebook conversations with Norton, I get the following from them this morning:

"Hi, Geoff. disabling Application blocking will not put the product state at risk. The engineering team has been notified and are further investigating it. We will let you know as soon we have an update. Thanks for your patience -Anirban"

To which I have replied:

"Sorry, I reported this issue initially back in November 2015. The engineering team have been notified at least twice about this and provided with two sets of diagnostics and screenshots. At this rate, OS 10.12 will be out before the issue is resolved. This simply isn't good enough."

Re: Norton for Mac 7.0 Application Blocking forgets authorised apps

Same here, installed Norton Security on my two Macs today, both forget the applications I authorize and I have to re-authorize them again and again.

Little Snitch worked perfect, but I had to remove it in order to install Norton Security. Wonder if I can install it again and disable Application & Connection blocking.

Re: Norton for Mac 7.0 Application Blocking forgets authorised apps

Norton Support are useless, The have had 2 remote sessions that left my Mac in a real state, I have contacted them 3 more times and been told each time this has been escalated and they will get back to me and they don't!  Have even taken to twatter, got an instant response, but just to get rid of my negative feedback

I now see this issue happening cyclicly, it's driving me nuts.  Just reinstalled my Son's MBP after a major disk fail and now Norton doing the same cyclic blocking messages for NAS connections.  Even resorting to setting everything to "allow" doesn't fix it. Have had to uninstall NAV to do any work on any of the Macs.

Now actively looking to cancel my subscription and move to Bitdefender.  It's supposed to have the lowest CPU impact and best ratings in all the reviews I've read.  Price is similar to NAV, although they don't appear to offer a 5 licence package which I need.  Time to e-mail them.

I think the only way Norton/Symantec will fix this is by people dumping their product and demanding subscription refunds.  NAV 7 is not fit for purpose!

Re: Norton for Mac 7.0 Application Blocking forgets authorised apps

Anther week of Norton saying give us another week "we're working hard to resolve the issues" that's finally blown it for me after being a customer for 18+ years. I've now installed Bitdefender across my 5 Macs and whilst it's not perfect (doesn't have a scheduler) it uses far less CPU, it doesn't stop me working and it found a virus on 1 Mac that Norton hadn't picked up, win win for me.  I'd suggest any other pissed off Mac users give Bitdefender a look see.

Bye Bye Norton :o)

Norton for Mac 7.1 was released a couple of days ago and this appears to have solved the issue.

Re: Norton for Mac 7.0 Application Blocking forgets authorised apps

As of June 9th 2016 - this problem is still persistant and it's REALLY annoying. Any time I open Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Spotify, Skype - damn near any application that I don't have blocked gets a pop-up from application blocking asking if I want to allow internet access. This neeeeeeds to be resolved, I'm about ready to uninstall and just go with Little Snitch, Geeeeeeez, c'mon Norton!

I'm running Norton Security version 7.1 with El Captain 10.11.5 (15F34) on a brand-new MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)

PLEASE get this fixed for 2 months I've been trying to just ignore it but if you don't catch the notification in time, Norton automatically just blocks the application. -_- and then you have to go unblock it. Really frustrating.

Re: Norton for Mac 7.0 Application Blocking forgets authorised apps

Please make sure you click Allow and select Don't ask again for this application when you receive the pop-ups

You can use this document as a reference:

https://support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v17131068_nis_mac_retail_6_en_us

If this doesn't solve the problem, enable Allow applications that are signed by Apple option in the Application Blocking window.

Re: Norton for Mac 7.0 Application Blocking forgets authorised apps

SYMANTEC: I'm having this issue too - it looks like it mostly happens with Microsoft Office.

I've checked all options including "Don't ask again for this application" -

Errors:

The application "Office365ServiceV2.app" is attempting to use the Internet

The application "Microsoft Excel.app" is attempting to use the Internet

The application "Microsoft Word.app" is attempting to use the Internet

The application "Microsoft AU Daemon.app" is attempting to use the Internet

When I look at the Norton Security - Advanced - Firewall - Application Blocking settings, I see many MANY multiple entries for those applications (one for every time I choose allow)

For family protection and security I want to block some applications from accessing the internet. This feature is important to me. Can you please open a bug and repair?

Thank you !!
