Norton Mobile Definition Updates

Hello,

Today is February 16. According to the activity log for my Norton Mobile Security product, there has not been a virus definitions update since January 29. Surely this can't be right?

I am a little concerned. Thanks for your help.

Re: Norton Mobile Definition Updates

It does seem to be the way Norton is sending definition updates for Norton Mobile Security, NMS. Just like with PC AV products these days, the app uses online scanning features that do use the absolute latest definitions, But the downloaded defs are updated much less frequently than they used to be. Any very new, or same day defs will be provided by the online scanning feature.

You can check out an older thread on this. The link I give is where I first got feedback from my Norton contacts. Feel free to go through the entire thread if you wish.   https://community.norton.com/en/comment/7841321#comment-7841321

The bottom line is that your devices are still protected.

Re: Norton Mobile Definition Updates

Thank you, Peter, for taking the time to answer my question. I understand what you are saying about the online scanning features, but I still like the reassurance of being able to see proof that the app is completely up-to-date!

I might have to hunt around for a different security product for my phone.

Re: Norton Mobile Definition Updates

As long as you have checked the Activity Log for NMS and see that the LiveUpdate is being run, you have the latest protection available from Norton. As I noted, you actually have more up to date protection with Norton using the online defs.

PCs are going the same way for protection defs. The downloaded defs for the product are usually the older definitions, with the absolute latest, up to date defs are online.

As always, it is always your call on what you wish to use on your devices. If you do look at other security products, see if you can check the support forums to see if they still get more regular malware definitions downloaded to the devices. It may be a new industry norm.
