Yes, please see the announcement of NIS 5.3 here:

http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-for-Mac/Announcing-Norton-Internet-Security-5-3-and-Norton-AntiVirus-12/td-p/761554

If you already have NIS 5.x you should be fine, especially once you have the 5.3 update.  If you are installing to a fresh 10.8 machine that did not have NIS, you'll need to get the 5.3 full installer (or else relax the default Gatekeeper setting).

Re: Norton NIS 5 and Mounten Lion

I can see that NIS5 is not fully compatible with Mountain Lion.

I have installed the same(updated using auto update), and I face problems still:

a) Auto scan for disk drives doesn't work(eg: attach a usb drive)

b) Norton Quick menu sometimes doesn't load on startup, and comes only after you take any norton utilities first time.

I have logged a case with norton support, and still it's under progress.

Hoping that, issues will be solved soon...

Re: Norton NIS 5 and Mounten Lion

Item a) is probably a misunderstanding of how this feature works in NAV 12.x  The way this feature works now is different than the way it did in NAV 11.  Instead of doing a scan of every file when the drive is attached, there is automatic scanning of files on external drives when the files are accessed.  This is invisible to users unless an infection is discovered.

I'm not sure if item b) is related to Mountain Lion, we haven't observed that here.  Can you go to the help menu of NAV and run the "Gather Support Information" command?  I'll send you a private message with an email address where you can send the info it generates.

Thanks Lee for the response.

But, where can I see the logs of this background scan(auto scan)?

I don't see any activities in history.

Basically, how can I ensure that an external disk is safe?

Re: Norton NIS 5 and Mounten Lion

Since that scanning is done on a per file basis, we don't want to clutter the log with every scan of a file that found no problems.  About the best I can suggest is to download a dummy EICAR file from eicar.org with AP off, copy it to the external drive, re-enable AP and open it in a text editor, at which point it should be detected.

But I suppose that's a lot to have to do just to confirm functionality, so we'll need to think about ways to give better feedback to users.
