Norton not Comprehensive Enough

I set up Norton Family on three computers.  I have to say that I am disappointed.

I have marked off almost every category but "Search".  I can tell it is working because Youtube is blocked like it should be.  But, a simple seach of two simple every day terms in Google's Search gives inappropriate websites. And, if I click "Images" at the top of the screen it shows me even more (even though Google's Safe Search is on).

I am very disappointed.   This software is not comprehensive enough.  I need a program that will limit certain "searches" too.

Re: Norton not Comprehensive Enough

Hi mhansen,

For safe search, you might want to try to change the settings on the search engines themselves first for now to get safe search results.  The feature of filtering search terms is on the product future enhancement list.

For example, please select the option “Use strict filter” for Google’s SafeSearch Filtering under “Search settings” link at Google page http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en to see if it helps.

Thanks,

Katie

Re: Norton not Comprehensive Enough

Katie.

I don't see a "Use strict filter" for Google's safesearch?  I did check "Filter Explicit Results" in the Google settings but I do not see a way to change the strictness of the filter.

I am sad that Norton doesn't have a way to copy and paste a bunch of sites I want blocked at one click.  There are many sites that I am able to go to (which I don't want to be able to go to) that should be filtered out on the category "pornography".  Also, I should be able to copy a blocked list from one child to the other at one click.  Does Norton have a way to suggest sites for a speciic category?

Re: Norton not Comprehensive Enough

According to Google, Locking SafeSearch is the same as strict filtering.

http://support.google.com/websearch/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=144686

"Once you're signed in, click Lock SafeSearch. This step takes a moment, because strict filtering is being applied to all Google domains."

The sad truth is.  Google's strict filter isn't strict at all.

Re: Norton not Comprehensive Enough

Hi mhansen,

If you don’t agree how websites are categorized, like the websites you think should be categorized as Pornography, please dispute them.   Please check out the link below for how to dispute a website.
