Norton Password Manager Automatic Backup

Hi. I am frustrated by the fact that the automatic back in password manager works for a few days then stops. If I go into the settings and exit, the backup happens that day and for three more, then stops. Repeat the process and I get four more backups but no more.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Re: Norton Password Manager Automatic Backup

Hello Dave. Good catch on your part as I haven't checked my backups in a while.  I have my PWM settings as follows:

Looking into the backups folder mine hasn't updated since 18 March 2020. Weird indeed.

My best guess is that on my part at least, there's nothing changed in the vault. Maybe its not seeing the need to perform a backup for that reason.

Cheers

Re: Norton Password Manager Automatic Backup

Hi, Possible but I'm not convinced its to do with changes to the vault. I've been taking advantage of working from home and updating old and insecure passwords most days for weeks now but no backups were done unless I checked the settings which I did on 19/02 following which backups happened on 20/02, 21/02, 22/02 then nothing. Again checked settings on 29/04 then backups done on 30/04, 01/05, 02/05, 03/05. Repeated process and backups on 15/05, 16/05, 17/05 and 18/05!

Yesterday I added a new backup manually, just as a test, since which no backup done.  So I'm going to log changes (or no changes) over the next few days and see how that affects it.  Will then comment further.

Re: Norton Password Manager Automatic Backup

Mike thanks for the feedback. Looking at the backup folder on this machine I see an automated backup was created last evening. Personally, I export my vault when a new login is created in the vault or a PW has been changed. It goes to an encrypted file on my desktop for safe keeping. Let us know how thing work out on your end as I haven't any info to give regarding settings changes.

Not sure this is the answer or not.  I notice on my system that I did try it yesterday and it shows as being backed up - however I did the same ting this AM and now, 20 minutes later - the back up still has not been listed.

Re: Norton Password Manager Automatic Backup

FWIW - I just checked my backup folder again and it shows it was updated @ 10:24 AM yesterday.  So it did show the lasted backup via PWM on the Norton product!

Re: Norton Password Manager Automatic Backup

Over the past few days I've added a login and deleted another. This has made no difference as backups have still not been done since 18th May.

I also used to do backups manually once a month but that became inappropriate / inadequate when I started working through and changing passwords on a daily basis; hence my new interest in the automatic backup.

Anyway, I've just disabled, then re-enabled the automatic backup, and will see what happens over the next few days.

Re: Norton Password Manager Automatic Backup

Disabled then re-enabled automatic backup of the vault. When doing so the UI required my Norton vault password to proceed although my vault was already logged into via my browser. That appears to have triggered a backup making things current. The last backup WITHOUT my intervention was May 23 as shown in the screenshot. Definitely something not right going on. Because I am ALWAYS signed into my Norton account via the UI, there should not have to be any manual intervention for a backup to occur. As shown in my previous post screenshot the setting for automatic vault backup is there and set.

Cheers
