Norton Peek feature enabled in 22.10

We learn something new every day!!  I have never seen this feature before this evening. I was obviously pressing something to make this enable before shutting off my touchpad. Ctrl + Alt + P keys but still wondering how in the world I was doing that.  Handy little feature all the same.

Any idea what versions of Windows that works with. C-A-P does not do anything with my Windows 7 HP 32 bit and NSBU 22.10.0.83 that came down a few minutes ago.

Although I have NSBU I don't have the toolbar or ID Safe activated so does it depend on those I wonder.

The linked article does not touch on any of that ....

huwyngr I found the settings in the dashboard under settings-administrative settings-search shortcut key. I turned that off and don't get the pop up anymore. I'm on Windows 10 Pro 64bit Creators Update 1703, IE 11, and do have the Norton Toolbar with IDS enabled.

I don't see a setting for Norton Peek at Settings | Administrative Settings | Peek Shortcut Key but Ctrl+Alt+P adds the widget to the top of my desktop.  My e-mail program and/or browser don't have to be open (and I haven't added the Identity Safe extension to my Firefox browser) so I don't think the functionality has anything to do with the Norton Toolbar.

Re: Norton Peek feature enabled in 22.10

Actually turning off the global setting in the dashboard did nothing. This thing has reappeared after each system reboot at which time the touchpad re-enables itself as well. No desktop app or icon are installed. Just randomly pops up. Getting seriously peeved off about this now as it has become an annoyance.

Sneak Peek - uses the built-in webcam to take a photo of anyone using your Android device, using the front-facing camera once you list it lost or stolen.#  I have Norton security installed on my Samsung Note 4 and its sitting in front of me. CONFUSED as to how this feature is ONLY for mobile devices yet I am seeing it on my laptop which is NOT set to tablet mode.

You may be confusing two different features Sneak Peak, and just plain Peak. As you say the Sneak Peak is a mobile feature to take picture to help find who has your lost device.  The new Peak feature in NS is a feature to check URLs in web pages to see if they are safe.

Re: Norton Peek feature enabled in 22.10

Why is it that, I am confused? When, there is NO such feature on nor enabled on my smartphone. AND Norton's own site explicitly says it is for mobile. Yet, "Norton Security / Peek seems to be enabled on my laptop version of NSBU yet there are no settings for it either. IN plain English, its not on my cellular device and is under the same subscription as my regular computers and laptops. Yet pops up without any inputs from me while on my regular computers and laptops. And there isn't any settings. Confused I am not. lol I just want the damned thing disabled.

Re: Norton Peek feature enabled in 22.10

On your mobile devices you are using Norton Mobile Security. On Windows or Mac products, you are using Norton Security. Two different products with different feature sets. Your one subscription allows you to use both products.

Mobile has Sneak Peak that takes pictures using the mobile device's camera, as you are well aware.

Norton Security / Peek is just a new feature to validate the safety of a link in a web page on a Windows or Mac device before you click on it. This feature is not listed as being in any mobile product, so that is why you are not seeing it on your mobile device.

And for semantics, I said you may be confusing the two features.

Re: Norton Peek feature enabled in 22.10

I went to the Peak support site and the only thing working is the Ctrl-Alt-P to toggle Peak on/off.

Right click on Norton Icon does not show Peak and no Peak settings shows in Settings.

Re: Norton Peek feature enabled in 22.10

Peak is a nice feature but its a little overboard. Every link inside the Forums I use gives the popup, even Norton Forums. I have to turn it off to stop all the popups. At least it is easy to toggle on/off with Ctrl-Alt-P.

It works in Edge, IE, Firefox and Mail in Windows 10.

As previously stated there in no confusion between the two peter. There is no way to shut them down and I am aware they are different features on different devices. lol. You are way too funny, Phoneman hit the nail on the head for me. Just about anything and everything causes this popup and its annoying to *ell and back. Hi Tony:

No, I have a Vista SP2 OS so I can't participate in the EAP beta program.

I was able to activate Peek yesterday using Ctrl+Alt+P after I received the v22.10.0.83 update and restarted to apply the update.  However, I shut down my computer last night and can't get Peek to work again after booting up this morning.

That's similar to observations by PhoneMan and peterweb that Peek stopped working after their systems were rebooted today.

Thanks for the follow-up information. I'm getting more info from the team, since clearly this feature's presence was not expected. Here is my log from this morning. When I booted last night the Peak was working again. After a few reboots today it is still working, although at times it fails and then a restart enables it again. For the logs, I turned it on, then off and back on. I noticed it uses fldghost.exe to spawn the service.

Hi Tony:

After reading PhoneMan's post <here> I confirmed that Norton Peek is working again after today's boot up.

I collected "Limited data for Support" and performed a few Ctrl+Alt+P's while the tool was running.  I zipped and attached the .xaml and .sdbz files the SymHelp tool saved to my desktop but I'm not sure if this is what you were looking for so let me know if I've attached the wrong log.

So since I updated to the latest version 22.10.0.83 I noticed a thing appearing randomy at the top of my screen called norton peek. I was just closing it and it would reappear but I seen on the forums of people saying ctrl+alt+p turns it off so I been doing that but problem is it turns back on every time I boot the computer. Is there anyway to disable this annoying junk? NIS is feeling more like malware itself every day with crap like this. I don't  want it let me turn it off permanently Norton.

Both kinds of peek are TOTALLY ANNOYING AND DISTRACTING! We should definitely be able to turn this kind of thing off. I've been using Norton for years and also install on all my client computers. We're all complaining about it and if Norton doesn't get rid of it or at least enable turning it off (and it should be off by default!), I will start moving myself and my clients to another product!

I was updated to v22.10.1.10 yesterday and can confirm that:

  • I can toggle the Norton Peek widget On/Off on my desktop with the Ctrl+Alt+P keys
  • There is no switch at Settings | Administrative Settings to permanently disable Norton Peek

That's the same behaviour I reported <here> with v22.10.0.83.  It didn't appear spontaneously after either update - I had to Ctrl+Alt+P to see the widget.

Can you enable the widget on your desktop (i.e., with your browsers and e-mail client closed) after you re-boot?  The last time this happened with v22.10.0.83 a few of us noticed that the ability to display the widget seemed to come and go each time we re-booted our system - see PhoneMan's 07-Jul-2017 post <here>.
