Norton Pop Ups

How do you get rid of norton pop ups?  For example, I don't want to use the toolbar and since I disabled it, I get a message about 5 times a day saying I should enable it from norton in a pop up.  It is extremely annoying.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Me too. I've been getting this popup repeatedly for several days and have tried to stop it in my Chrome settings, to no avail. How can I make these annoying popups stop?

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Hi All,

Norton Security tool bar support is getting removed, so clicking on "Stay Protected" button from the above pop-up will take you to our Portal page which offers Norton Safe Web extension as a replacement.

Norton Safe Web extension supports similar features of the Legacy Norton Security tool bar extension on Chrome -

 - Its a tool bar UI less extension, so it will not hinder with your web page layout

 - It offers Search annotations on Google / Yahoo / Bing on Chrome browser

 - Protects you from Malicious sites

 - Protects you from Phishing/Fraudulent sites

 - Any upcoming features will be added only to the Norton Safe Web extension

So to take advantage of the features Safe Web extension offers, please click on "Stay Protected" button -> Install Norton Safe Web extension from the portal page which is launched

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Add me to the list of very annoyed users... MANY of these pop-ups every day. I kill the pop-up and it comes right back. Have not found a setting that kills the pop-up.

It has to be pretty bad for me to take the trouble to post.

Come on Symantec... give us a break!

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Capitulated and the new extension is indeed less bothersome than the older legacy tool bar.

Would still like control over pop-ups and ability to silence them!

Re: Norton Pop Ups

I think Symantec has lost its way and instead of protecting its customers from malware and viruses has become one itself.  I get more nuisance pop-up messages from Norton than from a any other source.  I use a local vault for my passwords and Norton Identity Safe (Symantec) has discontinued it.  Anyone stupid enough to store their passwords on the Internet deserves to get them stolen, the next big hack will be Symantec on-line vault and all those passwords. Oh, that probably already happened but Symantec would never disclose that it happened, bad for business. I'll be looking for a different antivirus provided now and a different password manager.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

OMG i click on it or x it out 12 times a day and I just want it to stay or go but leave me alone.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

I cant believe this pop up ever passed QA at Symantec. No way of dismissing this message!!

Makes  me wonder about the quality of the product. I'll certainly be looking at swapping out Norton come renewal time.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Hi All,

For Customers who are seeing below pop-up from Chrome Norton Security tool bar, what does it mean ?

Your Norton Security tool bar support has been removed and you don't have support of below protection features from Norton extensions -

              - Protection from Dangerous sites

              - Protection from Phishing sites

              - Search annotations on google / yahoo / bing search results

To avail these protection features and to stop seeing the above pop-up, please follow the below steps -

1. Click on "Stay Protected" button from the above pop-up

2. From the portal page which is launched, Please install the new "Norton Safe Web" extension which is offered as a replacement

for the legacy Security tool bar extension on Chrome

3. Post the install of new Norton Safe Web extension, your legacy Chrome Norton Security tool bar extension should be automatically removed from your machine and you should not see this pop-up again.

4. In case you still see Chrome Norton Security tool bar extension in your browser but you had already installed "Norton Safe Web" also, then please traverse to Chrome -> Extensions UI -> Disable/Remove the Norton Security tool bar extension

Re: Norton Pop Ups

In general, just clicking on the Stay Protected button and closing the subsequent browser page should stop the message from appearing.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

No.

Please install "Norton Safe Web" extension which is offered in the browser page which is launched when you clicked on "Stay Protected" button.

Installing the same should remove your Legacy Security tool bar extension from Chrome.

@viveksu,

What you don't seem to realise is that many DO NOT WANT any Norton extensions.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Likewise @viveksu I would also like to disable the popups that happen at least twenty times a day asking me to install the Safe Web Extension.     This is worse than the mal-ware Norton is supposed to be protecting me from

Sadly that does not work.   The popups still keep coming

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Maybe, satisfy Norton and then do whatever you want re Norton extensions.

Maybe, install "Norton Safe Web" extension which is offered in the browser page which is launched when you click on "Stay Protected" button and then do whatever you want re Norton extensions ....e.g., disable Norton extensions.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Those pop-ups on Chrome are so annoying that I will not renew my subscription with Norton.  I thought Norton was to protect me from invasive problems on the internet-not be another invader.  Until then, I will drop Chrome and go with Firefox.  I read somewhere that it has had a major overhaul and is exceptional.  If the same problem happens there, I will just cancel my coverage.

And exactly what are the steps to get this done?

Re: Norton Pop Ups

I have 7 people using Norton Security on my behalf.   I may try to use something other than Norton in the future because the discord and wasted time it causes everyone.  Im not buying anything else from Norton so this anoyance will go away  thats really going to start a really bad thing !   !  I feel ensnared and I dont like this at all. !    I hope our frustrations are not pathologically feeding those at Norton.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

I am constantly getting spammed to install Norton components in my browser. I do NOT want them and I do not need them. I need a way to opt out of these prompts. If these pop ups don't stop, I will find another anti-virus/firewall solution.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Tried Norton Phone support on this. Useless. Our local security club is recommending McAfee.  It looks like we are not alone. Users should not have to spend all of this time to deal with Norton created foolishness. We pay them to to protect us from this stuff.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

These are just my thoughts. I am not a Norton employee.

With all the changes to the browsers we use in the way they handle/allow extensions, Norton had to redesign all the features that used to be included in the Norton Toolbar. How are users supposed to know about all these changes, and the fact that they now have to install separate extensions in the browsers? Many users are savvy enough to figure it out, or those that frequent the forums would probably have seen the information. But the majority of users may still need a little hand holding. These popups may be annoying when you already know the information. But it is usually an easy fix by just clicking through the popup, and ignoring any options on the ensuing web page.

If someone has a better idea of how to disseminate this kind of major change to all Norton users, I'm sure Norton would love to hear it. Don't suggest an email to all Norton users, because that is another avenue that users here are complaining about.

Things happen. Export/Backup your Norton Password Manager data.

But that's the problem @peterweb   clicking through the popup and ignoring any options on the ensuing web page DOES NOT make the problem go away.

I could also live with that.

I don't mind that there was an alert to a new feature.   That as you say is actually a good thing (I mean I had never been to this forum despite being a Symantec customer for over 20 years until this popup thing annoyed me this badly)

But if I dismiss the alert, there should be a way to turn it off for good.    As it stands now, I have to dismiss the alert 20 to 30 times a day, and clicking through to the web page does not make it go away.

Honestly, I'm thinking now this is by design.   There was a survey on this very page asking how we would feel if they changed Norton to always say you are at risk if its not installed.   Clearly they have made up their mind that we MUST have this installed.

So I'm sorry to say that unless they change this, I'll be leaving Norton once my current subscription is up.   There are plenty of other options out there, and I'm not going to have an anti-malware solution that has turned into malware itself.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Norton is  creating a huge negative public relations problem for itself with the pop-ups.  I, too, am considering some other company as soon as my subscription runs out.  If this continues past the end of the month, I may cancel.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

I seem to have been successful in getting rid of this annoying popup. I clicked the three dots in the top right hand corner of my Chrome browser screen, selected "more tools" and then "extensions". There were then two Norton boxes with remove buttons. One was for the Norton toolbar and the other was for the Norton Safe Web. I had to "remove" both of them for it to go away. So far I have gone all day now without the annoying popup. Hope this works for everyone.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Hi LisaB18,

I recommend you to please enable/install "Norton Safe Web" extension.

Norton Safe Web extension offers you browser protection features.

Pop-ups are actually displayed from Legacy Chrome Norton Security Tool Bar extension since its support is been removed.

Re: Norton Pop Ups

Thank you LisaB18 this has worked for me! A whole day without pop-ups ... bliss.  Like many other users I was considering not renewing Norton because of them.
