Norton Power Eraser doesn't work directly on Window 10

I don't know if this happens to anyone, but some help & advice is appreciated. So I upgraded my win 7 home edition to Window 10 last night again, afterward, when I ran Norton Power Eraser(I have Norton Internet Security) default Scan for Risks, it requires a restart, but after restart nothing happens; before on win 7 after click scan for risk, it asks for restart, yes, then after restart, Power Eraser will start scanning, but on win 10, after restart, nothing goes on, however, if I go for Unwanted App Scan or Advanced Option, those scans still work. This is my 2nd time upgrade to win 10, 1st time was back on Jan, same kind of issue back then, hence I return to 7 to see if wait a bit will wait for a solution to come up. Has this happened to anyone? Just doesn't feel right.

Also, before on win 7 regular full scan will only take maximum 1 hour, now it seems to go for 3 hour or so, and I can't use laptop much during the scan neither, during regular full scan, either thing won't load or major slow down, is this also normal on win 10? Maybe it will go away after a month, since old win 7 data is still in my laptop? I am really not sure, any idea?

My laptop is going a bit smoother than last time when I upgrade to win 10 though. Like I said, help or advice is appreciated, Thank you.

I have the exact same problem.

If NPE does not run, then what other Norton product will do a rootkit scan?

Hi, Dennis. NPE should only be used as a last resort as it is an aggressive tool, and can delete critical system files.

Norton by default, scans for rootkits.

Hi, I know that Power Eraser is a last resort of course, as in the past, it has helped me get rid of strong malware & virus that cause my screen to black out and delay; but currently, power eraser doesn't even work normally, since usually after click Scan for Risk, it asks for restart, then normally after restart, it should start scanning for no more than 5 min., and finally either tells me no problem, or problem solved; but now after restart, nothing happen any more, no scan, like it wasn't even activated, anyway to fix this?

Curious, are you calling NPE from Admin user account
Are you calling built-in NPE or stand-alone NPE

Re: Norton Power Eraser doesn't work directly on Window 10

This is the NPE I use, I go to Norton Internet Security, then go to Security, Scans icon, inside there is the NPE option, that's the one I always use to kill hard to get rid of stuff.  That's the Admin user one, right?

Okay, you run built-in NPE and do you run same from Windows Administrator user account.

So I upgraded my win 7 home edition to Window 10 last night again, afterward, when I ran Norton Power Eraser(I have Norton Internet Security) default Scan for Risks, it requires a restart, but after restart nothing happens;

Since, you upgraded to W10 last night.  Run W10 for awhile, let W10 settle in.  Even though Restart is not under the influence of Fast Startup.  Maybe, turn Off Fast Startup.  Why not let W10 settle in for a few days at least.

Run Norton LiveUpdates several times until no updates found > re-start not under the influence of Fast Startup > repeat.   Does all Norton otherwise run as normal.

Got it, built in one is the one I use always. I'm assuming Windows Admin. NPE is the NPE icon on my desktop, as for that one, I never had to use before, but that one does not ask for restart, currently this is what happened when I press it: 1st it ask for my agreement on some term, which I accept, then it just go on this check for new version..., which eventually reach a page says Internet connection restore basically, then 3 option, "continue, cancel, exit;" click continue, goes to same check for new version...(I can see Scan for risk, Advance all that icon at background but can't click it), that ends with same Internet connection restore page again; click cancel end with sorry connection problem page with Scan for Risk, History, Advance icon, but I can only click on History; or click exit icon which exit all together.

For instructions on using Norton Power Eraser, see the tutorial.

I'm assuming Windows Admin.

Are you in Windows Administrator user account or Windows Standard user account.
Are you in Microsoft account or Local account.

Re: Norton Power Eraser doesn't work directly on Window 10

Thank you for your help, All other Norton option does seem to function well. Full system scan seems to take longer than before, like before 1 hour, now it can go up to 3 hour sometime, I sort of expect this though.

NPE is the only one that seem to function not normally, like what I stated from my 1st thread, I can still run those Advance option scan from built in NPE, but the regular Scan for Risk doesn't seem to activated, hence why I'm asking if there's a fix, since this happens last time when I upgrade to win 10 as well.

Re: Norton Power Eraser doesn't work directly on Window 10

I am running Windows 10 64 bit (upgraded from Windows 7) since Windows 7 came out.  I am using the Comcast version called "Norton Security Suite" which I believe is equivalent to Norton 360.  The only problem I has on the upgrade of two computers with Norton was the version of Norton I was running on Windows 7 was not compatible with Windows 10 so I needed to uninstall Norton and then install the updated version.  All function of Norton are now working correctly.  My advice is to uninstall and then reinstall Norton to clear up the problems you are having using the Norton removal tool.
