Norton is reporting 1.4 GB of junk on my computer, looks like a scam

Why norton warning look different depending on the issue?   This one tell me that I have 1.4 GB of junk of computer looks like a scam dialog.

In fact, I question whether the "junk" is just Norton reporting itself.

Unfortunately, all these utilities that "check for viruses" are junk, Norton just happens to be the current junk choice.

The admins will probably delete this because they are [Removed] and can't handle the truth.   Maybe I should just email their CEO about this piece of junk, they call over 20 year old software that looks like it is trying scam customers left and right.

I really like (not) how "Don't show again" always shows again within weeks and when clicked opens the main Norton UI.

The button is technically "Dismiss this [Removed]", why would I want to go into the application?

Yeah, I'm not sure why Norton 360 feels the need to duplicate native Windows features in this regard. Disk Cleanup (which is a Microsoft tool that comes with Windows) is more than capable of removing temporary files, old drivers, etc.

Cleaning out your PC on a regular basis frees up drive space and helps it run better. One of the easiest ways to clean up files you no longer need is by using Disk Cleanup.

Thanks I am aware of Disk Cleanup and CCleaner, among other things.

My concern was not with the process but the application giving me the notification.

From your screenshot, it looks like an ad for Norton Utilities. You can disable special offers by doing the following:

To turn off special offers,

  1. Open My Norton if you're not in Classic View. If you are in Classic View, skip to Step 3.
  2. Click Open near "Device Security."
  3. Click "Settings" near Help on the top right-hand corner.
  4. Tap “Administrative settings.”
  5. Scroll down to “Special offers.”
  6. Turn it off.
  7. Click “Apply.”

Let me know whether or not this is what you were looking for.

Very Nice.

I have to Opt Out of ads for which I bought an antivirus software which comes with a browser ad blocker to stop ads.

The logic of the Norton marketing department just keeps shining through.   

And if it is ad for another component I don't have, that means that Norton has everything baked in so that license keys activate "useless" features.   

Just gets better and better.  

I am glad I opened this topic.   It means Norton as a company is just heading right to the trash heap of what Winzip became.

I agree with you. The marketing makes the product appear "cheap" when it, in fact, offers very good protection from malware. It's why I've been so vocal about encouraging the team to remove the "sponsored" ads in it.
