Norton Safe Web doesn't show accurate color

Today I visit a "malicious website" and clicked continue anyway. So Safe Web shows up red with an "X" (normal). Then I navigate to e.g. google or any other site but the red square with an "X" doesn't change to reflect the website's safety that I'm on after a malicious site is detected.

Screenshot;

Firefox 70.0.2 64-bit english-U.S., Safe Web is up to date and has been installed recently, The rest is down below.

Hi SGFC
as test...  I called horried.pro

Continue to the site

https://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=http://horried.pro

Here I'm on horried.pro and call new tab + my home button = google.com Safe dialog box.

And here I'm on horried.pro and click my home button > page in place horried.pro reloads with my home page google.com + horried.pro Warning dialog box.

and with Go Back one page
I see > horried.pro Warning dialog box.

So, does Norton Safe Web show accurate color?
Seems to show accurate color (for me) based upon Safe Web drop down dialog box content.
Safe Web appears to report on the page in view and holds back page report.
Safe Web button dialog box appears to report based upon how page loads.
I think I follow your premise.  Maybe, I'm not seeing exactly what you're seeing.
Based upon Safe Web drop down dialog box content (google.com vs horried.pro).
Safe Web button appears to show accurate color, for me.

Am I seeing what you're seeing?

Note: I'm Firefox 70.0.1 64-bit

Norton Safe Web appears to render accurate color based upon dialog box content (horried.pro vs google.com).

Safe Web button working as designed?
You decide.

Re: Norton Safe Web doesn't show accurate color

FWIW ~ as test...horried.pro with Continue to the site + 'Continue Without Isolation Mode' and Intrusion Protection = Off >

and horried.pro with Isolation Mode >

as always, your mileage may vary

Re: Norton Safe Web doesn't show accurate color

I didn't open up multiple new tabs or even one new tab. After it turned red and the website was blocked I clicked continue anyway then I think the systray notifications showed up. After that I clicked back once (Google is my homepage) so it went there but it said horried.pro in safe web and was red with an "X".

So unless you open a new window or tab the safe web icon remains red with an "X". I actually had to close Firefox before it went away.

Okay, on my machine.  I opened new blank tab + called my home page google.com.
Then I closed horried.pro tab.   google.com and horried.pro pages are in browser cache.
I think we're seeing expected behavior.

After it turned red and the website was blocked I clicked continue anyway then I think the systray notifications showed up. After that I clicked back once (Google is my homepage) so it went there but it said horried.pro in safe web and was red with an "X".

Okay, when I click back once after Continue to the site plus Continue without Isolation Mode.  I'll see system tray alert.

Note: due to timing, browser cache or sun spots ... I'll see >
That's why I turned Intrusion Protection = Off.....to test just Safe Web presentation.

and with click back again... brings me to new blank tab.

As always your mileage may vary.

May be related to Tabs settings.  IDK

Maybe, you've found glitch.

@SGFC ....took me a few moments to edit n' re-edit message.  Thanks

Re: Norton Safe Web doesn't show accurate color

For my tab settings they're all unchecked except for "Show tab previews in the Windows taskbar"

It doesn't seem to change from red unless I close Firefox. I haven't tried to open a new window or tab while it is there. But if I navigate away from the bad page it should show google(dot)ca with green and a check mark.

This time I clicked "Firefox home page" instead of back and the result is below.

Yes, horried.pro Warning dialog box.

Based upon Safe Web drop down dialog box content for horried.pro
Safe Web button appears to show accurate color.

Safe Web reporting holds on to horried.pro Warning report dialog box...with call home button n' call page refresh.

Maybe, Norton wants user to be aware regarding horried.pro page block during browser session.  Navigating away from page block may-does not mitigate threat.

Re: Norton Safe Web doesn't show accurate color

@SGFC

I'm wondering whether issue we see with horried.pro is because horried.pro is Threat Report Viruses <here>.
horried.pro renders Safe Web page block and Intrusion Protection alert.

I tried Latest Threats website/s with Threat Report Phishing Attacks from Norton Safe Web Community Buzz <here>.

And home button (google.com) from Safe Web page block (Phishing) changes Safe Web button back to green Safe.
Also, Continue to the site and then home button changes Safe Web button back to green Safe.

Safe Web page blocks for Threat Report Phishing Attacks appears to work as expected.

Community Buzz websites that I tested .... appear to work as you describe.

Re: Norton Safe Web doesn't show accurate color

horried.pro is definitely a malicious redirect URL there's no doubt. The website I was visiting isn't malicious (or it wasn't about a month ago).

But if I either press back or click the home button. It should change back to green with a check mark and it doesn't. So maybe it is a cookie issue. Because if I close Firefox and open it again the icon is grey (link below) If I was a new user of Norton and I saw that a page was blocked then navigated away from the bad page and the safe web icon remained red. I'd be a little concerned.

It seems like Norton Safe Web isn't being maintained very well. Here's a post from a long time ago that was ignored by Symantec and never addressed. https://community.norton.com/en/forums/bug-norton-safe-web-v23024-firefox-grey-icon-landing-page

I'm wondering how long it'll be before Safe Web reaches EOL because it is too much to maintain. Then rebranded as Norton Browser Protection and underneath it is old Safe Web code.

I'll try using privacy and security options in Firefox to delete temporary files and cookies and see what happens. Maybe Safe Web just needs to acknowledge the correct cookies/temp files instead of think it is still on the bad page.

I just tried this along with clicking Refresh/Reload (F5) and it remained red with an "X".

edit - I did try a new tab while the red icon was there and yes it does show green. So the problem is with using one window instead of tabs or multiple windows.

I don't use Firefox > Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed.
I need to maintain persistent login cookies.
I prefer CCleaner....easier for me to maintain persistent cookies.

Yes, as we've observed > click back button or click the home button does not change Safe Web Icon back to green with horried.pro.

Test websites on Community Buzz Latest Threats.  Community Buzz Latest Threats websites that I tested change Safe Web Icon back to green with click home button.

For example:
Safe Web Icon changes from Red to Green with click home button.

I tried these two mnordeste(dot)org source(dot)com(dot)tr and it worked like it should. Still don't understand why it'd just be horried(dot)pro that doesn't work as expected.

Yes, "these two" work as expected.
IDK if it's just horried.pro that "doesn't work as expected".

Maybe, because horried.pro is Threat Report Viruses.
Maybe, because horried.pro renders Safe Web page block and Intrusion Protection alert.
