norton safety minder firefox plugin

The norton safety minder plugin for firefox 5 was finally released last week, and now I have an update for firefox 6 available.

Can someone tell me if this add-on will be compatible with 6 before I update?

Also, even though the plugin was not compatible with firefox, web blocking seemed to be fine, is the plugin even necessary?

TIA

Re: norton safety minder firefox plugin

Hi adgamer11,

NOF works at the network driver level so the browser used does not matter, however the plugin helps us with determining SN monitoring, Video monitoring and filtering out embedded Urls. Embedded Urls are the ones where each web page may ask for many others, the plugin helps us determine the main page that was accessed.

Thanks,

Ashok

Re: norton safety minder firefox plugin

Has this been solved yet, as I've installed Norton on a 90 trial to see if its better than Mcafee and I keep getting the emails saying its been disabled, I'm running Firefox 6 on 2 PC's that my kids are using and all in all am very happy with Norton!

Re: norton safety minder firefox plugin

The so called Norton experts better get a move on because firefox 7 is on it's way.

it will probably be here before they have even fixed the plug in for firefox 6.

Re: norton safety minder firefox plugin

Yeah that was sort of my point..The update for compatibility with FF5 finally came out a week before FF6 was released.  My subscription is almost due, does anyone know of any other parental controls that are compatible in a timely manor?

Re: norton safety minder firefox plugin

There really is no excuse for Norton not ensuring that their plug-ins are compatible as soon as a new version of Firefox is released.  Mozilla makes beta versions readily available, so it really is just a matter of Norton testing and making any needed adjustments in a timely manner.

The update for Firefox 5 compatibility was ridiculously late, showing up just days before Firefox 6 was ready for release.  This can't continue if this product is going to continue to be a viable solution for parental controls.  The endless "we are working on it" responses without any solid indication of timeline are also highly unhelpful.

I find it absolutely unbelievable that one of the industry's top security companies seems to believe that it is acceptable to ask their customers to keep using an outdated browser version in order to continue using their product.  You absolutely have to change your approach to Firefox compatibility to match Mozilla's new release schedule or else you need to throw in the towel and drop Firefox support.

Re: norton safety minder firefox plugin

I agree Jeff, I am trying to find out what mcafee uses for their parental controls and if its updated in a timely manner.

As I said, my norton subscription ends in like 20 days and I am considering switching

Norton, you posted this in the middle of August! How long before we get the plugin for the Safety minder?

Web browsers:

I found the following on the Online Family product support site yet my computer says it does not support Firefox 7...  ????  My children seem to be able to stay online even after their timelimits are reached.  I have double and triple checked their settings and read over post on here about it and I still can't fix it...  ??  Can anyone help with this or do I have to find another program?

Norton Online Family supports following Web browsers to monitor Web activity for your child:

• Windows

- Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher - Mozilla Firefox 3.x or higher

• Macintosh

- Safari 3.x or higher - Firefox 3.x or higher
