Norton scans did not identify it as malware

Hi just to share - picked up the malware above on my Norton 360 protected phone on Thursday afternoon from the play store! Norton scans did not identify it as malware until early Saturday morning. Sadly the uninstall option then provided DID'NT work.

Norton is a Which best buy!!

Downloaded the basic version of TotalAV - cost £3.60. Scan identified the issue & removed it!!

Not great from Norton!!

What device and OS version are you using?

What did TotalAV say about the detection?

Do you know where you picked up this malware? ie What app were you trying to get?

Moto g (9) plus - android 11 with security patch 1/11/21

This might be a very new malware but as I said it was picked up as such around 4am today by Norton having sat on my phone for approx 1.5 days. It wasn't a massive issue in this time. It stopped me accessing settings/apps & it was difficult to turn the phone off.

But when Norton finally decided it was malware as was likely I wanted to remove it but the uninstall supplied didn't work.

I don't know specifically what the TotalAV scan said other identifing the malware & providing a delete option. There doesn't appear to be an activity log on this basic system which there is on Norton.

The malware came from play store search for qr scanner. The malware icon was green & I believe it was attached to an app by bytesbee 3.1 version. Now I'm not certain about this but this app didn't load properly. That name isn't obvious on the list of apps but it might be either marked 2021 or 2022.

Re: Norton scans did not identify it as malware

If you can provide the exact app involved from   https://play.google.com/store  , then do your search and click on the app involved then copy the URL into your reply here, I can check on it to see what you are seeing.

You mentioned that Norton did detect the app eventually. Was this when you tried to use the app, or was it just when Norton ran a scheduled scan? You can check the activity log for your 360 by tapping on the three bars at the top left of the 360 screen and tapping on Settings > Activity Log. Then see if you can see any information about a scan being run, and also information on what the detection was.
