Norton Secure VPN after sleep or hibernate

Norton Secure VPN starts automatically when windows 10 starts on boot up but if the laptop goes to sleep or hibernates, I have to restart it manually.

I am using Windows 10 Home, Version 1803, Build 17134.407

Is this a bug, or is there a solution

Thanks

Re: Norton Secure VPN after sleep or hibernate

Do you have to restart the app, or just reconnect to the VPN server?

Have you done a full system restart of your system recently? That may be needed to ensure you have completely updated to the latest version of Norton Secure VPN.  As you have Windows 10, if you have not disabled the Fast Startup feature, you are not getting a full shutdown if you use the Shutdown and startup again. A Restart will get the shutdown you need. If you use Windows 8/8.1 or 10, there can be an issue with the Windows Fast Startup feature.. See more information here.

Re: Norton Secure VPN after sleep or hibernate

I have to restart the app as it has disappeared from the taskbar. I shut down and power off the laptop at the end of every day, but I need to check if ‘fast start’ is enabled or not. I will have a look later as I don’t have access to the laptop at the moment.

I would suggest that if you are not sure about Fast Startup being on, it probably is on. That is the default from Microsoft. Even if you have turned it off, most Major updates to Win 10 turn it back on.

Doing a Restart will get a full system restart which might help complete any pending product updates.

Re: Norton Secure VPN after sleep or hibernate

I turned off Fast Startup and then shut down the laptop for the night. Only then I noticed that windows update had made changes and had scheduled them to install at shutdown. The following day and the next I had to manually start Norton Security VPN as it didn't automatically start even though it is set to.

I then uninstalled the VPN restarted windows and reinstalled the VPN. After a manual start I then did a further restart of windows and it seems to have cured the problems. Today has been fine. Fast Start is still off at the moment.

I will now mark this as solved.

Thank you for your comments.
