Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

Do these two apps share the same VPN safety features? I was using Secure VPN app for hiding private info from public wifi networks, such as pumping gas and using an app to store my credit cards and pay. Would the new app Norton Security Web Protection work for that type of thing? It does have a VPN built into it.

Im also asking Norton Secure VPN doesn't seem to work on my phone anymore. Im having trouble auto configuring my network to the app. For some reason the new app, Security/Web protection VPN's Server seems to configure fine on my phone. I have a iPhone 6s plus, 12.1.2 version, with the new update of Secure VPN. I posted a picture of the two apps I'm talking about.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

The Norton Security for iOS does not have a VPN function. I know when Web Protection is enabled it shows the VPN symbol at the top of the screen, but this just has something to do with how Norton has to access the network resources in iOS. This is what I received from a contact when I asked about this.

The on-device VPN that the new client uses is *not* Norton Secure VPN. It's basically a loop-back within the device that allows us to make calls to a back-end server to check the URL.  If the URL query comes back bad/malicious, it blocks the page from loading and notifies the user immediately via system notification.

So you will still need the two apps if you want actual VPN service. My experience with the Norton Secure VPN is that you cannot control it at all within the iOS settings. You need to set it up and turn it on or off from the individual Norton Secure VPN app.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

Ok makes sense. My secure VPN app seems broken though. I know you have to connect through the app first. Whenever I log in, it automatically asks me if I want to configure my network to the app. I originally used it with Touch ID. After hitting the red circle to try to connect. The swirly animation happens for a few seconds, disconnects back to the red circle, never turns green for me. Norton is currently helping me with this. I just don't really know if it will work anymore.

I tried everything with Norton, Reinstalling the app, restarting the phone and my network settings, logging out and back in, disabling touch ID and passcode. We will see but it's frustrating after installing the new update for connection issues and paying a subscription.

I also have iPhone 6s (not plus) with iOS 12.1.2 and NSiOS and Norton Secure VPN and all seems to be working correctly.

Please let us know how it goes with Norton on your VPN issue. Come back if they cannot help and we can try some other ideas.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

Ok I haven't talked to Norton yet, had a plan to get a call Wednesday, 16th. What are your ideas? I am stumped and would like to get this working. Does it have anything to do with my subscription? Under my profile status, my MacBook is offline while my phone is online. Everything seems to be downloaded. zip file is two pictures of my dashboard.

Does it have anything to do with my subscription?

It might. Did you purchase a multi device subscription to Norton VPN, or just a single device subscription? If you purchased from the iPhone's App Store app, you may have only got a single device subscription. If you set up the VPN on the MacBookas well, you can only have one device active at a time.

If you do have a multi device subscription, let's try another reinstall of the VPN app. Go into iOS settings and tap on General, then on iPhone Storage. Once the app list is populated, scroll down to the Secure VPN app and tap on that. Then tap Delete App from there and it should remove the app and all data. Restart the device, then reinstall the app. Sign into your Norton Account and test to see if things work correctly. Remember to only setup and control the VPN from the app.

As for your MacBook showing off line. I am not a Mac user, but look at your Norton Security product settings and look for Administrative settings. Then scroll to look for a setting for Remote Management. Be sure that setting is turned on.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

I do remember Purchasing the VPN Secure app on the iPhone. I know that I only have it on the iPhone because when I try to download the Sucre VPN app from the subscription menu on my mac, it says "this mac is not supported. Ill try to delete the app from settings. I have only been doing it from the home screen, when the app shakes after holding your finger on it for a couple seconds. Ill try anything else you suggested. Thanks for the help.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

As you purchased VPN from your phone, that is just for an iOS version. If you are wanting to use Secure VPN on your Mac as well, you would have to purchase the multi device version from the Norton website.

If you wish to do this, you can request a refund from the Apple App Store, then make your purchase from Norton.

Let me know how you get on with the reinstall.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

I dont really want it for the mac computer. I just want it to work on my iphone lol. Im thinking I might purchase the multiple device VPN. My original phone had the purchase on it, now I got a new phone. Im not sure why that would make a difference because the app was working on my new phone for a little while until the new update. Now its all screwed up. I'm going to post a video so you can see what's happening.

Do you know what happens if I remove licenses from my old phone? Its the Norton Security Deluxe License.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

Are you still using the old phone, or have you replaced it completely? If you are no longer using that, you should remove the license for Norton Mobile Security from your account.  Log in at   https://my.norton.com and click on the little user icon at the top right and then click on My Subscriptions. Click on Manage my licenses beside your current subscription, and click the trash can beside the old phone. That will free up the activation. This will not work for your Secure VPN subscription.

Looking at your video. On the first screen where you are asked to start the 30 day trial. Did you tap on the "I already have a subscription" link at the bottom of the page?

I'm thinking it still may be an issue with the license being registered with the Apple Store. Try getting a refund from there and then purchase a new subscription directly from Norton. Then you would want to uninstall Secure VPN as I noted above and try again.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

I have license with my old phone, Mac and my new phone. Yes I tapped, I already have a subscription on my phone. I’ll get a new subscription. This will probably cancel auto renewal?

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

Do you still have the old phone? If not, remove it from your NMS subscriptions as I noted above to free up the activation.

We are discussing two products and subscriptions. If you are referring to the auto renewal for the Norton VPN, then cancelling and asking for a refund will stop any auto renewal. If you are referring to the Norton Security/NMS subscription, just removing a device will not affect the auto renewal. You can turn it off manually from your Norton Account if that is what you wish.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

I removed all old subscriptions, installs even from iTunes. I purchased a new subscription through norton with VPN secure. My MacBook works with VPN now, but not my phone still. I downloaded everything correctly through email from my new purchase. The only thing I see is even though I canceled subscription, it isn’t expired. Do I have to wait for it too expire? Second option is to ask norton to come with a update or wait.

I don’t have my old phone. It’s wiped clean from my carrier.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

Just removing the VPN from your iPhone will not cancel the subscription. You need to request a refund from Apple. See this information on how to do that.   https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT204084

Does your new installation on your iPhone still loop as it does in your video? Does it show up in iOS settings under the VPN section as a Personal VPN?

One other thing I thought about this afternoon. Try uninstalling both NSiOS and the Secure VPN using the iOS settings method I noted above. Restart your iPhone and install only the Secure VPN app and test to see if it works. If it does, then try installing NSiOS again. Then test both apps to see if they work correctly.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

Ok, let me try refunding through iTunes. Ill try the second method.

Re: Norton Secure VPN and Norton Security/Web Protection VPN question

The only VPN setting it shows under the configuration, is the Norton Security Web Protection app. Every time I reinstall the Secure VPN app, it doesn't pop up in the Configuration settings. Its definitely something wrong with the Secure VPN app, if only one app can Configure my settings. No I can't refund the subscription through iTunes, it was purchased in 2018.

Im still convinced its the app update that screwed it up. The update said something about the new iPhone X Support.

Let me try Uninstall directions though.
