Norton Secure VPN on Win 7 frequently refuses to connect

I'm running Norton Secure VPN on a Win 7 laptop and have been experiencing frequent degradation of my public wi-fi connections followewd by a dropped connection and attempt to reconnect (sometimes, but not always successful). Eventually, I find that Norton Secure VPN will not connect even after restarting the wireless connection (often multiple times). The only way I've been able to "fix" this is to shutdown and restart Windows...a rather time consuming and painful process. Hoping you can give me a better alternative.

Re: Norton Secure VPN on Win 7 frequently refuses to connect

Do you shut down your laptop often, ie daily? Or do you let it sleep/hibernate most of the time? I find that multiple sleep wake processes on my laptop tend to make Norton VPN  get a little flaky. As you find, a restart usually fixes things.

What public wifi networks are you using when this happens? Does it only happen at one location, or multiple locations?

Re: Norton Secure VPN on Win 7 frequently refuses to connect

I generally use sleep, resorting to shutdown only when absolutely necessary.

The wi-fi networks are a mix of local public libraries, local town senior centers, local health centers, University medical center, and coffee shops &c.  I've had problems with all these sites, but it seems that those sites with a disclaimer page as part of the connect process (which most, but not all, sites have) are more problematical.

So, I'm with you on your diagnosis: "multiple sleep wake processes ... tend to make Norton VPN get a little flaky ... [and] a restart usually fixes things" unfortunately, restarting the laptop (often multiple times) each time VPN "gets a little flaky," is not a viable solution.

This can be part of the problem. The VPN needs an internet connection. Until you have made the connection through the sign in page, the VPN cannot connect.

Windows computers have always benefited from a restart to clear out all the garbage. Some apps may be more susceptible to this accumulated garbage.
