Norton Security 22.5.0.120 - Hot Issues

Hi everyone,

The below issues have been reported by customers after updating to Norton Security version 22.5.0.120. We are aware of these issues and are investigating them. In the majority of cases, the issues are resolved by following these steps:

  1. run the Norton Removal Tool to remove the current product
  2. login to Norton Management to download & install version 22.5 again. The direct install (as opposed to the patch update) resolves the issues seen

HOT ISSUES - v22.5

  • NS prompts “Restart Required” after each reboot. [link]
  • "Your trial Version has expired, you need to activate it now” message is seen, despite having active subscription days left. [link]
  • Changes in the background settings without the user's consent. [link]

Hi folks, here's the latest news:

- the 22.5 update is currently not available via LiveUpdate. Because of the issues seen here, we decided to remove the update, and focus our time on getting the problems fixed.
- in reviewing the issues seen, the update process seems to be a large part of the problem, as opposed to the updated product itself.
- in light of the previous information, we're recommending that those currently on 22.5 to run the Norton Removal Tool, then go to Norton Management to download & install version 22.5 again. It won't be an update - it will be a full install of the product.

I understand that some of you might have concerns with installing 22.5 again. For the "perpetual reboot" issue, we've seen that this method stops that cycle. Also, for the "Trialware expired" message, that automatically resolves in 10 seconds - 1 minute after loading, typically. And as stated above, the issues appear to lie primarily with products that update to 22.5, rather than a clean installation of 22.5.

I'm sorry for the confusion and the headaches this probably caused many of you. Hopefully this information helps, and can get you operational again. Thanks for your patience and for communicating these issues to us.
