Norton Security with Backup Live Update patch

In Norton Security with Backup and run Live Update. The updates complete and a message 'Patch Available'. Selecting Install Now the patch appears to be applied followed by 'Closing Applications' then a flash of 'Restarting Application'. Norton closes and does not restart,Task bar icon missing. Norton will then not start from icon on desktop. To get Norton running again have to restart the computer.Running Live Update again you get a repeat of the above

Instead of clicking Apply Now, try Apply Later and restart your machine.

A little bit of knowledge is... well a little bit of knowledge.

Re: Norton Security with Backup Live Update patch

Barrapple. Are logged into the machine under an admin account? And is fast boot enabled? Fast boot being enabled will not allow the computer to get a 100% clean shutdown and cause issues. Here is how to disable it: https://community.norton.com/en/forums/windows-881-or-10-and-fast-start-feature-0

Please let us know if this helped.

Re: Norton Security with Backup Live Update patch

Barrapple Windows 7 doesn't have "fast boot", that was a feature added to windows beginning with Windows 8. Windows 7, you can look at your startup items and disable things to find out what the culprit may be causing the issue. Whatever the version of Windows if hibernation is allowed that will also cause issues upon system resume as well. I installed NSBU on a Windows 7 Pro machine earlier this morning and had no issues with the install. If you also have Security Essentials installed remove it and reboot. Windows 7 will NOT disable Security Essential as Windows 10. If you have Windows Defender (updates will provide that) disable it from your startup list in Task Manager. Reboot and recheck.

Re: Norton Security with Backup Live Update patch

All attempts to fix issue have failed. Tried the Norton Removal and Re-install Tool (NRnR) which uninstalled Norton successfully and then failed on the re-install. Then tried NRnR and selected Remove Only followed by a re-.install from my account and now all is working. Tried Live Update and selected to install patch and all installed successfully. Installed version same as original version.

Thanks for all the help.
