Norton Security (bought in 2015) firewall blocks local workgroup

I bought and installed Norton Security with Backup in June, 2015.  It's firewall blocks access between computers on my LAN unless I turn it off.

I've searched the forum, but all of the similar posts are from around 2012, and the instructions given don't apply to my version of the product.

Any suggestions other than turning off the firewall (which works, but is a little scary since I have port forwarding access to the computer in question enabled through my router firewall)?

Hi, timetravis. It might be worth doing a firewall reset, so that the firewall will create new permissions.

Re: Norton Security (bought in 2015) firewall blocks local workgroup

Hi ,

Can you please explain what kind of service is blocked by Norton Firewall? Are you trying to do file sharing/remote desktop?

Meanwhile, you can check LAN trust level in Settings->Firewall->General Settings->Network Trust. If it's PUBLIC, change it private and try accessing from the other computer.

Thanks,

Madhan

File sharing is what was being blocked.  I could still access the disk through an FTP port, and view a web page supported by that computer.  It's only its shared folders I couldn't access, even though those are the folders I could access via FTP.

I did switch the firewall setting to public, and that seems to have worked.

I guess I was expecting some way of enabling specific services from specific LAN addresses.

Thanks for your help,

Tim
