Norton Security now broken in Mac OS 10.11.6

Yes. Norton Security 7.4 is now broken after live updating.

"AT RISK" is now showing, and I am unable to rid myself of it. It states that I need to live update, but there's only so many times I can do that without screaming. I've restarted, as advised, after live update installed, and restarted again and again. Very frustrated. Please advise.

As a follow up question: When is the standalone bare bones Antivirus for Mac coming back? I don't need/want all of this complexity, and Norton is alienating its customers with all of the extras in NS.

Really? No one form Norton can comment on this debacle. Is the silence just another way of saying buy the competition's product?

Re: Norton Security now broken in Mac OS 10.11.6

Same issue.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the product.  Now, I am getting the same issue again.  Really annoying.

I am running Mac OS 10.12.4, but this issue with Norton is the same.

Hello? Anyone home at Norton?

Re: Norton Security now broken in Mac OS 10.11.6

Doesn't appear so.  Seems everyone is on vacation.

In the meantime, this (extremely annoying) issue persists!

Still on vacation? Well, I'm still having the same problem. Is this really the way things are going to end? I certainly hope not...

Keep us updated on this issue. Hopefully one of the Norton employees will be able to help you.

Re: Norton Security now broken in Mac OS 10.11.6

I too have this issue.

This is beyond ridiculous. Norton support can only suggest "reinstalling Norton" and nothing else. This is a joke.

Re: Norton Security now broken in Mac OS 10.11.6

Yes, it's ridiculous.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled on my Mac twice, yet I am STILL getting this issue.  That's simply no solution at all.

Are you listening, Norton?

Re: Norton Security now broken in Mac OS 10.11.6

Second time re-installing did the trick for me.

I think the LiveUpdate is messed up somehow. When the application was not starting, I could still get the "About Norton Security" window sometimes open and that shows a version number of 6.0 (with all other properties as unknown). When running the uninstallation (or file removal to be precise) script, it shows it's running removal of NIS 7.1 files. Then, again, if I look at the properties of my "Norton Security.app" under Applications, it shows the expected version of 7.4.

Perhaps some kernel extensions or other helpers are not upgraded with LiveUpdate properly, since reinstalling finally worked?

Again, Norton, get your Mac shit together. This is not funny.

Re: Norton Security now broken in Mac OS 10.11.6

Why do you have forums if you're not going to respond? This is ridiculous. Norton is a mere shell of what was once a dominant security company.

Online tech support is a joke. All they want to do is take remote control of my computer, and when I refuse, the standard answer is "reinstall with this link I have provided you. It WILL work." It never does.

This product is flawed. I left a while ago because of problems with NIS. My subscriptions was still active, so I thought I would give it another shot. What a mistake...

Hi @DCIFRTHS & @trclac,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused. We have released a fix to address "At Risk" issue via LiveUpdate. Could you please reboot machine and run LiveUpdate and let us know the issue status?

Re: Norton Security now broken in Mac OS 10.11.6

It took twenty days to even get an acknowledgement to my question, let alone an answer. IMO, this is unacceptable. Do you agree?

You are representing a security suite for consumer's computers. It took TWENTY days to respond to an "At Risk" notification that some of your users are experiencing. We were in the dark the entire time. Would you continue to use a vendors SECURITY product if they treated you that way?

Can you at least tell me why it took so long to even post a "we're looking into this, but you are (or aren't) protected" answer?

I have already uninstalled NS, but am not opposed to reinstalling it before my trial period of one of your many competitor's products runs out. Can you give me a reason to return to Norton?

Additionally, and unrelated to the above comments: Are we ever going to see a return to ONLY basic antivirus protection? You guys did it on the PC. I personally don't like Norton's disabling of the Apple firewall (especially without asking) and browser hijacking that NS does/wants to do.

I would really love to hear back from you.

DCIFRTHS and trclac Have you performed Live Update per the post by Sunil_GA and rebooted? Did this solve your issues?

I haven't tried it yet. I currently don't have NS installed. Sorry. Wish I could give you an answer.

I am hoping to get some answers to my questions posted above...

@DCIFRTHS

Sorry that we missed out updating this thread with issue details. We had updated forum thread on same issue and also updated the Hot Issues and Fixes thread which is pinned at top of the Norton For Mac forum board for customer reference on ongoing issues. Once the fix update was released same was updated in release announcement here. Please install Norton with latest virus definitions and let us know if you are still facing this issue. Thanks

Re: Norton Security now broken in Mac OS 10.11.6

@Sunil_GA

You listed three links in your post.

The first link you provided: I read that before I posted. The main problem in that thread seemed to be no internet connectivity, and the OS was Sierra. I didn't have the "no connectivity" issue, and I am on a different OS (El Capitan).

The second link you posted: I also saw that, and it doesn't list any fixes for my issue. Please see the text below where it mentions fixes for NS AFTER updating to Sierra, As mentioned above, I am using El Capitan.

HOT FIXES

  • Fixed with Norton Security 7.4: Connection Blocking issues with Norton for Mac 7.3.1 b21 after updating to macOS Sierra 10.12.4 - Thread 1Thread 2
  • Fixed with Norton Security 7.4: Security & Scan remains 'At Risk' in Norton for Mac 7.3.1 b21 after updating to macOS Sierra 10.12.4 - ThreadThread 2

The third link you posted: I did see this post, but I did not receive the update via Live Update. Honestly, I figured it wasn't for my OS. As @trclac mentioned, he uninstalled then reinstalled, and had the same issue.

Norton Security 7.4 for Mac is now available via LiveUpdate. To download this update, simply run LiveUpdate.

To verify you have the update, launch the Main User Interface, click on Help, and select About.

The bottom line is that there seems to have been a lack of communication from Norton and/or a lack of understanding on my end. Either way, I appreciate your responding.

Re: Norton Security now broken in Mac OS 10.11.6

As for me, mine seems to be working ... now.  It took around three weeks or so, and two uninstalls/reinstalls, with no help from Norton during the whole process, but, yes, mine appears to be working now.  Thanks for checking in.

Re: Norton Security now broken in Mac OS 10.11.6

This issue is why I am now using a competitor's product despite having 100 days left on a 5 license norton subscription.
