Norton Security - Renewing via Pre Paid Subscription Product Key without auto renew/billing details

I have been using Norton Security for over 10 years and have always updated my product by purchasing and entering a new product key. I have an account with Norton with auto renew off and have never had to enter billing details. I always purchase my new update via Amazon a couple of months before my existing subscription ends so that I have everything ready to update when my current subscription ends - it has always been a very simple, quick process via "Enter Product Key" within my Norton product.

I have just received my Norton Security Premium (10 devices) card ready for use in a couple of months but it seems the "advertised 1 year subscription version" has been replaced - instead I have received a "1 Year Pre-Paid Subscription" version which seems to require me to enter a payment method to activate my subscription. It seems Norton have moved to trying to force you to auto renew.....

As I said before I have always had auto renew switched off and do not want to change to auto renew or have my card details left with Norton. Looking for advice on how I can use this new product key to get the benefit of the 1 year Pre-Paid Subscription I have paid for without having to auto renew in a years times (at vastly inflated cost) or leave my credit card billing details with Norton.

Step by step instructions to achieve this would be greatly appreciated.

FWIW ~ probably, not what you wanted to hear....

FAQ: Norton subscription and renewal
I have already paid for Norton, why do I have to provide the payment information?

You purchased a recurring subscription which will automatically renew annually after the initial term. To be able to renew your subscription after the initial term, we need your payment information. The accepted payment methods* may vary depending on the country.

You won't be charged until the subscription term you already paid for comes to the end, and before billing, you receive a notification email to alert you about the upcoming subscription renewal and its price.

Is there anything I can do to skip this step of providing the payment information?
The subscription that you bought requires providing this information before activating it. Once activated, you can still log into your Norton account and cancel the Automatic Renewal.

How can I cancel my subscription?
To cancel your subscription, sign in to your account and visit the My Subscriptions tab, or we'd be happy to chat about it. After cancelling, your subscription will not automatically renew. However your protection will continue through the end of your current paid term.

Re: Norton Security - Renewing via Pre Paid Subscription Product Key without auto renew/billing details

Many thanks for swift response.

As you say, this isn't really what I wanted to hear. I like the Norton product but am not happy that the 1 year subscription versions seem to have been withdrawn, with the "Pre Paid version" being your only option. I thought, from the description and pictures, that I was purchasing the usual 1 year subscription version rather than the "Pre Paid "version that was actually supplied. Very disappointed with this move by Norton.....

Please can you confirm whether:

1) I can activate via by signing in to my existing Norton product, entering product key and providing billing card details when prompted/requested. Hoping to avoid having to download a "new product".

2) Once activated on my main PC, would I have to follow same process on each of my other devices?

3) Once, hopefully, all my devices have a further years protection can I then turn auto renew off and remove my billing details?

Fingers crossed....

Note: new license acquired from 3rd party vendor starts new subscription term.
....to avoid loosing days, wait a day till end of current term.

Thanks, I am planning to wait a day till end of current term but am just keen to know in advance easiest way to activate Pre Paid version that has arrived and then turn off auto remove and, hopefully, remove my credit card details.

FAQ: NortonLifeLock automatically renewing subscription

[...]
When did I subscribe to an automatically renewing subscription?

  • You are subscribed into our automatically renewing subscription, when:

    • You purchase an automatically renewing subscription from our Norton LifeLock online store.

Certain payment methods do not facilitate the automatic renewal of subscriptions. In this case, you are subscribed without automatic renewal and you will need to renew manually.

    • You activate online on Norton LifeLock the automatically renewing subscription purchased from a retail store or a NortonLifeLock affiliated online-third party website.

You may cancel your subscription by signing in to your account and visiting the My Subscriptions tab, or we'd be happy to chat about it.

So it sounds as though I can activate the Pre-Paid period by opting in to auto renewal and supplying valid credit card information. Hopefully i can then cancel auto renewal but retain the remaining period until the pre paid term expires.

Having cancelled auto renewal, hopefully I can remove the billing info from my account. Norton certainly are trying to force people onto auto renew to increase revenues....

Re: Norton Security - Renewing via Pre Paid Subscription Product Key without auto renew/billing details

One last suggestion that might work. It has in the past.

If you have paid for a new Norton subscription from a 3rd party, contact Norton Support and ask them to add the time from your new key to your existing subscription. You might dodge having to supply payment details, and you would not have to wait for one day remaining on your old subscription to do this.

If you do try this, please let us know if it still works.
