Norton Security Toolbar v2014.7.12.30 crashes Chrome

I'm having some trouble with my Chrome Norton Toolbar/Identity Safe extension.

I have a standalone Norton Identity Safe install v2014.7.11.42.  I have had the Chrome Norton Toolbar/Identity Safe extensions installed for a while and working.  I originally installed them through the standalone install (that is the only way that I could install the toolbar on this PC).  There is a settings button in the standalone which takes you to a General tab.  On that tab, there is a section for Browser Extensions that gives you a status of the required Identity Safe extensions on your PC for IE, Chrome and Firefox as well as provides an install link if you do not have the extensions installed.

Chrome just started freezing up upon opening when trying to start the Norton Security Toolbar last week.  So I uninstalled Norton Identity Safe and Chrome from my PC, reinstalled Chrome, reinstalled Norton Identity Safe and then used the above method to reinstall the browser extensions.  Again, when the Toolbar extension attempts to enable, Chrome crashes (freezes).

I know there is a new version of the Norton Toolbar, however the install link in Norton Identity Safe takes you to the old Toolbar install.  Is it supposed to do that?  Should it take you to the new version?  This is the install link that Identity Safe provides: https://identitysafe.norton.com/client?product=idsafe&SSDCAT=314&lang=en...

Incidentally, I did attempt to install the newer version of the Norton Security Toolbar (and the Identity Safe extension) from this link that a fellow poster provided (after again uninstalling everything and reinstalling): https://identitysafe.norton.com/client?server=1

This seems like a generic install link that does not know what Norton product you're attempting to install the Toolbar from.  There is a product dropdown, that did not exist with the first link above.  I left the product dropdown set to Norton Security or Norton Security with Backup and this time it took me to the v2015.5.4.11 version of the Toolbar Install.  I proceeded and the install did not crash my browser but after I installed both the Toolbar and the Identity Safe extension, the Identity Safe toolbar would not appear in Chrome, no matter what I tried.

So now the only browser that actually has a working version of Norton Toolbar with Identity Safe on my PC is IE, which I rarely use.  I'm close to ditching Identity Safe out of sheer frustration at this point.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hello jbrown316

Are you using the Stand Alone Identity Safe (IDSS) or are you using Norton Security with Backup? You can't use the Stand Alone with Norton Security with Backup. If you installed the extension for Norton Security with Backup into the Stand Alone, that will not work. You can't have the IDSS and Norton Security with Backup because you will have 2 Toolbars installed then.

The first thing is please clarify which program you have now.

Thanks.

I have IDSS.  The free install located here: https://identitysafe.norton.com/

I have no other Norton programs installed.

Hello

After reading over the Announcement about the Chrome update and the Norton Toolbar, it doesn't mention a version change for IDSS. Therefore, you should not be using the new version that is listed in that Announcement. If there was no update coming thru your program, then you don't have the update. You should not have the same extensions that were mentioned for Norton Security with Backup.

Thanks.

Re: Norton Security Toolbar v2014.7.12.30 crashes Chrome

Thanks for that explanation.  I'm ok with that, however I don't know why the IDSS version of Norton Toolbar has started crashing Chrome on my PC.  Maybe it is just coincidence that it started happening around the time that the new version of Toolbar came out.  Not sure where to begin troubleshooting my issue.

I just tried the new version to see if it would make a difference.

Hello jbrown

Perhaps you can try reinstalling Chrome, first close your IDSS also make sure if there are any extensions for the IDSS that they are enabled. I think you can use the new version of Chrome with the old version of IDSS. You can give that a try.

Thanks.

Before you start uninstalling anything, what security program/s do you have installed?  What other extensions?

Thanks.

Hello

If you have Emet   software, please try uninstalling it and then try Chrome again.

Thanks.
