Norton seems to hang Mac when AV defs are updated

I seem to see a trend where my Mac (M1 mini, Monterey 12.1) hangs occasionally. Mouse/keyboard are unresponsive and I'm unable to ssh into the Mac to restart it via command line. The only way out is to force a reset via the power button.
Almost every time this happens, I open Norton and see that there was a Protection Update time that corresponds very closely to the time of the reboot. I'm getting the suspicion that Norton's LiveUpdate process is causing the hang. This is not a one time thing or is unique to M1 Macs. I'm running the latest Norton 360.
Has anyone else seen this behavior (and if there's someone from Norton viewing these posts, do you know of this issue?)...
