Norton Site Ratings not shown for sites at top of search results

I've just searched for a suppliers of kitchen spotlights. Why is it that there are no traffic-light ratings for the sites that appear at the top i.e. above "web results"?

Is it that they are known to Norton to be safe (paid advertisers)? If so, can we assume that all are rated "Scanned Safe and Secured for online transactions"?

Hi Taffy,

As you can see I did a similar search on Win 7 using IE 11 and got the following:

Perhaps clicking on the Cog in the upper right corner of the Google Page, selecting Search Settings > selecting Never show Instant Results under Google Instant Predictions and then Save may help.  Sometimes refreshing the search also helps.

Hello Taffy

Perhaps the Google in the UK isn't as good as the one in the USA. I just tried the same search as you and yank in Google. I got the same results as yank did. In addition, even the ads on the right side of the page had the annotations on the page. Annotations is what Norton calls the Green Go's.

Thanks.

Re: Norton Site Ratings not shown for sites at top of search results

Hi both. My search was for 'kitchen spotlights'. I tried again just now and got the same result.

I changed the setting in Google to block instant results, Yank, but I still get them.  Just realised - I didn't mention that I searched in the Norton search on the Norton toolbar and that's powered by Ask. I don't have a stand-alone Ask so can't access the Ask settings that way.

I searched again in Google and that doesn't show the Norton Annotations.

But clearly, Yank/floplot, the Norton USA search must be different to the Norton UK search - we don't get ads on the right-hand side:

Still, I'm sure that those suppliers shown above the "web results" line must be safe & secured - but it would be nice for Norton to confirm! Thanks.

Re: Norton Site Ratings not shown for sites at top of search results

Hi Taffy,

Well, I did my search in Goggle and it appears you did your in Norton Search,  I have now done mine using Norton search and look at I found:

There is a Norton Options dropdown in the upper right corner and it appears with it set as No Filters, the Safe Web Icons do not display. Select one of the other options and I get the Safe Web Icons.

Hi again Yank. I've tried those option (which I confess I hadn't spotted before) but, as in your screen shot, the results that appear at the top of the screen still have no Annotations next to them.

But we have at last finally established that it must be the Norton program that doesn't show them.

As ever, thanks - and I hope that you and all your American friends in the community are kept safe from Hurricane Patricia which looks about to dump many inches of rain in Texas.

Re: Norton Site Ratings not shown for sites at top of search results

Hello Taffy

Hurricane Patricia has fallen apart and is a tropical depression now. Texas has had too many rain storms of late, but nothing to do with Patricia. Thanks for your concerns. I'm far away from there.

I think your Annotation issue has to do with the UK version of Google. In my opinion, Google shouldn't have ads like that actually. You are better off going to the company's website to see what is on sale. The ads can be a source of scams when companies advertise they can fix computers and say they are Norton technicians when they are not. They rip off people who don't know better.. But this is just my opinion.

Thanks.

I totally agree, Floplot - that's why I don't use Google (except as a verb!) - or rather I don't search with Google.
