Maybe, Norton intends to use Norton tray icon blinking as a user experience enhancement?

I don't get that pop-up on my end bjm. Thanks for the heads up though, will watch for it appearing. FWIW!! The just released 22.21.5.44 update doesn't correct the issue as well.

I don't know whether blinking and popup was the intended flow or just coincidence.

I think that the latter may be applicable. I've also noted the system tray icon blinking at random times while browsing the internet. No background tasks have started when that occurs as all are set to be performed during ONLY idle time. No live update checks are being done, at least there isn't anything logged in my history that coincides with the time frames. Odd indeed. Others in the community should also tell us if they are seeing this as well so we can mark it as NOT an isolated event with just a few customers/users involved.
Performed a "removal only" of my product a few days ago didn't produce any different results. The latest version update to 22.21.5.44 ALSO has not resolved the issue.

I've been seeing the Norton icon blinking a lot lately on all of the systems I have Norton installed on. In fact this has been going on for months and will just blink at random and also every time I actually click on the Norton tray icon. I have always thought it was a Windows issue. This bug is much more visible if using a custom Windows theme / visual style or using a theme app like WindowBlinds, where the blinking bug would make the whole system tray go insane for a second or two. Im not sure if I need to reinstall or if its related to the blinking issue, but opening the Norton UI from the tray icon would make my HDD spike to 100% for that second as its opened, as the icon is "blinking" and this is every time I open the UI from the tray icon.

All my machines, save one, are on Windows 10 Pro 21H1. The issue persists, definitely not a Microsoft issue since this began as far back as the release of 20H2.

Awesome!! I considered doing the same. However doing some searching this specific issue has appeared several times with Norton installations as far back as 2009. Being that more than just a handful saw it then and are doing the same now again. I believe as are at least one other issue with N360 are coding issues. One where, the right hand ( Microsoft ) doesn't collaborate with the left hand ( third party vendors ), in a fashion that makes either of these products stand out as quality driven. Dealing with support at most companies in today's world is embarassing at the least. Talking to a wall will get you an echo, talking to support will get you a hangup or a trashed device. Creature features do not make for a good product. Making a product that performs as its advertised does.

Well, had remote session today on my spare machine.
Support had me remove a long time used 3rd party program.
Support ran Intel Driver and Support Assistant.
Support ran Windows Update.
Support was unable to see my Norton tray icon "blink".
During remote session all my system tray icons (including Norton) are not consistently displayed.
Trying to reproduce Norton tray icon blink for Support to see.
Double click Norton tray icon or right click Norton tray icon caused all (clock, speaker, network, battery) sys tray icons to disappear.
Maybe, LogMeIn rescue program loads my system, degrades screen refresh rate. IDK
Support is not aware of nor able to reproduce my Norton tray icon "blink" report.
Support suggests may be Windows issue.
I've submitted (01-Jun-2021) MAT Log, pics, video.
Support will refer my report to Norton engineers.

I'm running built-in Windows 10 theme....main 1yo entry level Dell lappy is 150% scaling... spare 6yo entry level HP lappy used for remote session today is 125% scaling. IIRC both machines started displaying Norton tray blink at about same recent time. Maybe, 21H1? Norton reinstall does not change Norton tray blink.

All: This issue was present prior to release of 21H1, myself at least never reported it. As a further test. Standard account was created on my dedicated laptop earlier ( new test account ), the same behavior is observed. The video driver and refresh rate of 60hz are standard globally. Changing to 48hz and a restart doesn't provide any change to the behavior. Game mode and all related settings are set to OFF globally. Video driver is WHQL provided by Microsoft via LU, no R5 AMD packages are installed. Scaling is also 100% globally.
IMA that one machine I have refuses to ugrade to 21H1, has the same Norton product installed as all my other machines and also exhibits the blinking icon issue. The common thread from my view is Norton is the common thread vice a Windows issue being present. If my devices were showing a "screen" blinking issue vice an icon I could settle on an issue with an Windows update being the culprit. The Norton icon blinking also happens at random times without any user interaction and the system is idle and when surfing the net without any interaction from the user. Nothing is present in the Norton history or system event viewer that indicates there is a driver nor kernel issue taking place. I'm totally at a loss.

My spare 6yo lappy seemed unwilling to 21H1. I ran Update Assistant to promote 6yo lappy to 21H1.
Yes, I reported random Norton tray blinking to Support agent.
Support agent seemed disbeliving my "blinking" report sans seeing Norton tray icon blinking.
Support agent seemed leaning towards my Windows, my equipment causal.

Norton Product Tamper Protection off & Boot Time Protection off + machine Restart.... sorts two icons.

Looks like an update of unknown type and time frame has corrected the flickering icon issue on all my machines. Whether an update from Microsoft or Norton I cannot determine. Glad its corrected and hope it stays that way.

Just saying that, if you are still seeing the issue on your systems this still needs to be fixed.

I myself am still seeing this on ALL of my systems, even a few, my desktop and laptop which are on the Windows 11 Insider Preview and the rest are on Windows 10 21H1 19043.1110 and its most certainly noticeable when it does blink.

Norton engineers identified issue with 22.21.5.xx and released fix with 22.21.6.xx

FWIW!! Machines who had received 22.21.6.51 then received the hotfix are still seeing the system tray icon blink issue. Those machines who went from .44 directly to .53 are not seeing the issue. Too many machines to R&R thus I will just live with it until another update does away with it.

not for me, and Im Win10 pre 21h1, with Norton360 v 22.21.6.51, still blinking issues latests Win10 update installed that would fit into the time window I noticed those blinking issues would be KB5005033 (installed like 10 days ago).. and other recent update would be too long ago since I only noticed that blinking feature at max. 10 days ago (probly even more recent) lets call it a feature - lets call it a day? xP
